The Role
As Head of Multiplatform Content, you will be a critical part of the team responsible for Discovery's direct-to-consumer product. Reporting directly to the Group SVP Content & Commercial Strategy DTC, this role will lead the creation and development of "alternative programming," including short- and mid-form content to populate the DTC's social media channels, and podcasts. This role will be responsible for building and maintaining good working relationships with multiple departments spanning the 18-network portfolio, from content development to marketing and social, as well as with external partners to create and maintain a steady flow of platform-specific content. The right person for this role is an experienced leader and creative problem-solver who is immersed in non-traditional TV / film content.


Maintain awareness of the entire DTC-specific (original, borrowed, and licensed) content pipeline

o Understand level of priority, target audience, and comparable content
o Identify opportunities to expand upon or complement DTC content with ancillary / marketing /social content and / or podcasts to raise awareness or deepen fandom
o Establish and maintain relationships with all the internal social / marketing teams to ensure support on campaigns and enable fluid communication on asset creation / delivery and access to materials related to DTC Originals as well as network content.

Oversee the creation / acquisition of short- / mid-form content and images for DTC and social distribution

o Develop and execute a strategy and vision for content to feed non-O&O digital platforms
o Identify key partners (e.g., Group Nine) to develop and produce a steady stream of platform-specific original programming, supervise the execution as needed to ensure high quality delivery.
o Work closely with Discovery Digital Studios to provide content in a timely manner for distribution across social platforms.
o Track, analyze, and report on key content metrics across all channels and platforms and use it to drive strategy, selection, and execution.

Build and manage a central podcast business

o Build a best-in-class team and manage daily business operations.
o Establish 'Podcast Content Council', with members from Factual, Lifestyle, JV, and International networks.
o Work hand in hand with the content council to create ongoing and limited original series and companion podcasts to network and DTC originals.
o Create a library of repurposed content suitable for podcast distribution.
o Work closely with business affairs to establish relationships with distribution partners and possible acquisitions, work with ad sales on sponsorship and monetization.
o Track, analyze, and report on key podcast metrics across all platforms and pivot accordingly.


* Bachelor's degree in related field or an equivalent combination of skills, training and hands-on experience.

* Minimum of 8 years hands-on production & development experience in non-fictional genres.
* Preference for work experience in social media and /or digital content.

* Proven record of demonstrated creativity with an ability to generate new ideas and translate them into high-quality execution.

* Ability to manage outside producers, build credibility and strong working relationships with other internal executives and generate commitment to goals.

* Knowledge of all aspects of contemporary production and post-production capabilities.

* Outstanding editorial judgment and creative abilities, strong verbal and written communications skills, and demonstrated leadership skills.

* Must have the legal right to work in the United States.
