This position serves as a Teachers Aide/Substitute for Grand Street Settlement Early Childhood classroom. Under the supervision of the Site Director, the Teachers Aide/Substitute is responsible for assisting with the supervision of all children, implementing classroom activities, works cooperatively with and supporting other classroom staff and volunteers, and assists with the general maintenance of the classroom to insure the health and safety of the children of the program.


  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED); some College Credits preferred.
  • At least one year experience working with children ages 0-3 and families.
  • Ability to read and write English.
  • Candidate should be flexible, cooperative and willing to work in a team environment.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, children, parents and customers.
  • Provide quality customer service and maintain productive work relationships.
  • Ability to interpret documents such as safety rules and policy and procedures manuals.
  • Ability to follow company, department and regulatory policies and procedures.
  • Successful completion of background checks required upon hire.
  • SCR Clearance Both DOI and DOE Fingerprints must be done.
  • If hired, Grand Street requires all potential employees to provide proof of full COVID-19 vaccination.


The Teachers Aide/Substitute responsibilities chiefly fall within the following core functions, although she/he may perform other tasks as needed:

  1. Child Growth and Development: Supervising all childrens indoor and outdoor activities while incorporating positive guidance techniques.
  2. Planning: Conducting activities that encourage social, emotional, physical and cognitive development in a manner that meets all applicable local, state, and federal standards.
  3. Program Implementation: Assisting Teacher in completion of attendance, health checks, home correspondence, home visit forms, accident/incident reports, referrals, safety inspections, and etc.
  4. Family Partnerships: Creating and maintaining a positive working relationship with parents, providing positive feedback on childs ongoing developmental successes and challenges.
