Job Description:

The KAUST Gifted Student Program (KGSP) is a prestigious scholarship program sponsored by the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) for STEM students from Saudi Arabia pursuing undergraduate degrees at top institutions in the United States. Within KGSP, there are two advising tracks: undergraduate degree-seeking students; and pre-college Foundation Year students. This position opening is for a Student Advisor, Foundation Year/Undergraduate.
The Student Advisor requires advanced project management skills to support several ongoing complex advising initiatives and the near and long-term strategic planning intended to support the Program's continued success. The Student Advisor will assist in specific program planning, development and administration; while advising a caseload of current KGSP students on a diverse set of issues related to their academic progress, including STEM degree completion at highly competitive US universities, career planning and exploration, and scholarship compliance. Advisors provide 24-hour emergency assistance, including on-call counseling and problem-solving and/or immediate response and escalation due to health or personal emergencies. The Student Advisor travels extensively, including numerous trips of 1-2 weeks throughout the academic year to US universities in order to meet students and academic staff and to participate in milestone events with students and KGSP leadership and overseas to KAUST for up to three weeks working to prepare the cohort of students to be successful while attending university in the U.S. The Student Advisor represents IIE and KGSP externally to program partners including high level university contacts and regularly liaises with members of the sponsor management team to discuss individual student cases and implementation of advising-wide initiatives.

Essential Functions:
Advise undergraduate students, on at least a bi-weekly basis, on degree completion and KGSP compliance; provide assistance to undergraduate students to ensure academic, personal, and professional success; meet with students to discuss post-scholarship opportunities, develop strategies tailored to reach individual career goals, and refer to home university resources as needed.
Assist with review of students' academic information, audit students' academic records, maintain consistent contact with students to follow-up on advising interactions and agreed-upon Action Plans.
Manage specific, complex KGSP projects, as assigned by the Director, all designed to enhance overall program efficiencies and drive program results.
Accept referrals regarding student needs and issues and contact students for advising meetings; refer students to appropriate College and University resources as warranted, and follow-up on these referrals; work with on-campus officials at US universities within portfolio, including Academic Advisors, Designated School Officials (DSOs), University Health Center, and Campus Police to help guide students through difficult personal and academic situations.
Provide 24-hour emergency support, connecting students to local resources and coordinating follow-up as necessary.
Analyze student data and outcomes related to the advising project, and create outcomes-focused reporting for use in sponsor reports, new advising initiatives, and other external communication.
Maintain accurate, current student files in IIE's Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system. Create lists, verify data, and collaborate with Program Reports team regarding record maintenance and data quality control. Responsible for ensuring accuracy/consistency of data over a student's lifecycle on the program.
Assist in the planning and implementation of regional and global events in the United States and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, including new student orientations.

Job Requirements:

Education and Work Experience:
Requires a Bachelor's degree in order to apply a working knowledge of the theories and principles in a specialized field or work discipline.
Requires at least five years of related work experience.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Strong understanding of international participants and ability to manage cultural and counseling issues
Broad knowledge of assessment, training, and advising tools
Project management, time management, and administrative skills;
Strong interest and ability to work effectively in a team environment; Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written
Ability to interact with all levels of staff and clients, ability to exercise discretion on confidential matters
Prior knowledge of international student advising and/or STEM student advising preferred

Essential functions are performed in a general office setting with low noise.
