Job Summary Hiring Range: $58,822.40 - $77,542.40/Year D.O.Q.
Under the general supervision of the Director of Accounting, this position is responsible for various accounting functions, including but not limited to, recording journal entries, reconciling accounts, and assisting with financial reporting and accounting rules compliance.
- Compile and analyze accounting information and prepare and record necessary journal entries.
- Assist Director of Accounting in reconciling general and subsidiary ledgers for assigned accounts, including preparation of monthly reports and maintenance of supporting schedules.
- Assist in month-end and year-end process; prepare schedules and analysis as required, and provide documentation to external auditors as requested through the Director of Accounting.
- Review and maintain Accounting records for various contracts, including setup and maintenance of records in applicable software.
- Work closely with other departments to ensure proper revenue recognition, including compliance with GASB 87 requirements.
- Research new accounting rules and regulations and assist Director of Accounting in developing new policies and procedures and ensuring compliance.
- Maintain accounting controls by preparing and recommending policies and preparing written procedures of assigned tasks.
- Prepare special reports and analysis and performs related duties and tasks as assigned.
- Adheres to PCCA policy and maintains good employee relations, assists colleagues in resolving day-to-day work issues and works collaboratively with the rest of the Accounting team.
- CPR certified or the ability to become CPR certified within the first year of employment.
- Tier 2 status designation.
CANDIDATE PROFILEThe preferred candidate for this position should be a self-starter and self-motivated individual with strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Highly organized and detail oriented with strong communication skills desired. They must possess the following:
EDUCATION & CREDENTIALS- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Accounting.
- Good driving record with valid driver's license.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) during course of employment.
EXPERIENCE & JOB KNOWLEDGE- Five to Seven years of experience in accounting.
- Good knowledge of accounting theories, concepts and practices.
- Good knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Working knowledge or ability to rapidly assimilate Federal, State, and Port regulations, legislation, guidelines, policies and procedures.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
- Experience with Oracle JD Edwards Enterprise One valued but not required.
- Ability to responsibly handle sensitive and confidential information.
- Ability to establish priorities, work independently, and proceed with objectives without supervision.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills.
- Effective business communication utilizing correct English including spelling, grammar and punctuation, and articulation of ideas and recommendations.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL JOB FUNCTIONS- Ability to perform essential job functions, including but not limited to frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking or hearing, typing and occasional reaching, stooping, kneeling, lifting and/or moving up to 20 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to work in a general office environment, and on a work site with exposure to adverse weather conditions, fumes and /or air particulates, working in high precarious places, risk of electrical shock and moving mechanical parts, moderate noise levels and working at heights, ability to wear personnel protective equipment, including hard hat, steel toed footwear, eye and hearing protection when performing work functions.
- Communicating verbally, in writing and over devices such as phones and mobile phones.
- Ability to operate mechanical and electrical equipment and light-weight highway vehicles and standard office equipment and to work the requisite hours to fulfill position objectives, including evenings and/or weekends, as needed.
