Reports to the Accounting Manager, Donor Revenue & Reporting

Who we are

Population Services International (PSI) is the world's leading non-profit social marketing organization. We are a diverse group of over 5,000 entrepreneurial development professionals located in over 40 countries committed to making it easier for all people to lead healthier lives and plan the families they desire. PSI is using it's global presence and 50+ years of experience to help reimagine healthcare. We are working to shape market systems, shift policy and funding, and strengthen global capacity to better support consumer empowered healthcare.

Join us!

The Finance department supports the global operations of PSI, and we are looking for an experienced manager to join our Finance team to support our donor reporting, accounts receivable, and revenue recognition functions.

Sound like you? Read on.

Your contribution
  • As a member of a team of about four people, you will be ready to perform all of the following duties when needed, however your manager will assign you as the primary on a subset of these functions, and then rotate assignments among the team periodically.
  • Sets up new awards in the ERP to ensure that revenue will be recognized in accordance with GAAP, including ASC 606 and ASC958, and that all reporting attributes are populated correctly.
  • Verifies that revenue, billed and unbilled AR, and refundable advances are stated correctly in the general ledger by reviewing donor report reconciliations that are prepared by another team.
  • Reconciles general ledger accounts and ties to subledgers at monthly close.
  • Records accounts receivable, cash receipts, retainers, contributions, pledges receivable, and revenue for milestone and pay-for-performance based awards.
  • Tracks pending project close-outs and coordinates their completion.
  • Collaborates with other Finance team members and with Program Management Teams to ensure we get the right data to the right people at the right time.
  • Supports the annual audit and program audits.
  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

What are we looking for?

The candidate we hire will embody PSI's corporate values:

Measurement: You use hard evidence to make decisions and guide your work. You set clear goalposts in advance and explain clearly if you need to move them.

Pragmatism: You'll strive to deliver the best possible result with the resources available. You won't be paralyzed by a need to make things perfect.

Honesty: You own your mistakes and are open about your shortcomings - it's the only way you'll learn and improve.

Collaboration: You'll quickly establish a mental map of whom you can rely on for what, on your team, at headquarters, and in our country offices - if you try to do it all yourself, you won't succeed.

Trust: You accept limits to your sphere of control and give colleagues the benefit of the doubt

Commitment: You are in it for the long-haul and want to grow with the organization, just like PSI serves its consumers and partners with host-country governments through thick and thin.

Qualifications
  • 'Bachelor's Degree (or international equivalent) in accounting or related field required', CPA is preferred
  • At least 7 years of accounting experience is required
  • Knowledge of GAAP is required; experience with reporting under US government cooperative agreements and contracts, and familiarity with the rules and regulations of PSI's major funders (including USG, DFID, and KfW), is preferred
  • Working knowledge of ERPs is required, experience with Infor Lawson is preferred
  • Expert-level Excel skills are required
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to distill information for senior management and non-finance colleagues in an appropriate and clear manner, are required
  • References are required
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States; PSI will not consider work visa sponsorship for this position
  • The successful candidate will be required to pass a background check
