POSITION SUMMARYThe Senior Technologist serves as the on-site supervisor for the specialty for both hospital divisions, in addition to performing diagnostic testing according to established departmental procedures. Diagnostic testing includes X-ray, cat scan, ultrasound, MRI, nuclear medicine, mammography and special procedures. The Senior Technologist assists the Radiology Manager with the daily departmental operations, including the technical and administrative aspects. The Senior Technologist is responsible for maintaining proper staffing levels and finding coverage for call-outs on a daily basis.
The Senior Technologist performs diagnostic testing as directed by the physician at a competent technical level not requiring constant supervision. This position operates diagnostic equipment, including peripheral equipment, in a safe and efficient manner to obtain optimal test results. The Technologist manages the patient during the diagnostic procedure to meet quality patient care standards. This position ensures supplies are maintained and reports problems with equipment to the appropriate staff member. This position also actively participates in and supports student clinical education activities.
This position supports organizational goals by providing quality customer service, participating in performance improvement efforts and demonstrating a commitment to team work and cooperation.
QUALIFICATIONSLICENSE: Licensed by the State of New Jersey, Department of Environmental Protection for all modalities except Ultrasound. ARDMS is required for Ultrasound.

Strong technical and organizational skills required, along with demonstrated leadership abilities. Candidates must possess ability to multitask, with attention to fine detail in a fast paced environment. Proficiency in Clinical Applications preferred at time of hire; incumbents within position will be trained appropriately and then skill will be required for this position within 30-60 days from date of hire. State License expires end of each year and must be renewed annually to work. ARRT expires on incumbent's date of birth and must be renewed to work.

WORK ENVIRONMENTPotential for exposure to the hazards and risk of the hospital environment, including exposure to infectious disease, blood-borne pathogens, potential injury and hazardous substances, including electromagnetic radiation. Position requires the ability to stand a majority of the time; technologist performing MRI and CT requires the ability to sit in front of a CRT monitor much of the time. Position requires extensive pushing, pulling and lifting of patients and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPThis position reports to the Radiology Manager. This position provides direction to staff diagnostic technologists. The Senior Diagnostic Technologist Mammography supervises the Mammography Clerk. The General Radiology Senior Diagnostic Technologist supervises the radiology attendants.
