Job Summary:

The Software Engineer is primarily responsible for design and development of embedded software (RTOS) for new product development as well as sustainment of existing product.

This individual must be competent in subject matter, principles, knowledge, and concepts to perform this role and are considered the subject matter expert, having the capability of performing the full scope of activities associated with this role using the application of modern software engineering principles and techniques to analyze software requirements and design of the system applications such as; requirements analysis, specification generation, interface definition, test plans and procedures for FPGA integration, and all relevant programmable logic description documentation.

This position requires the ability to work in a team environment and communicate effectively with peers and management. This individual must be able to effectively communicate, both written and verbally, with employees at all levels in the organization, and must have excellent problem solving, data analysis and decision-making skills.

Responsibilities:

Engage in all aspects of product development, including concept, requirements, architecture, design, verification, and system integration.

Collaborate with electrical hardware engineers to define microcontroller/FPGA functionality and interface requirements, including device selections.

This is very much a hands-on position requiring direct interaction with the hardware in the engineering lab and employing debug techniques using digital scopes, logic analyzers, simulators, and related tools will be essential.

Interface with HW design engineers to assign, test and verify electrical interfaces and protocols between the FPGA and embedded system devices

Perform test benching within industry standard simulation environments to produce bit-accurate results.

Examine, understand, and modify existing firmware to adapt functioning code to new requirements with minimal perturbation.

Participate in peer reviews, PDRs, CDRs, and other required design reviews

Participate in interdisciplinary design teams and reviews.

Debug code and hardware / schematics at high level using logic analyzers, oscilloscopes

Other related duties as assigned

Education / Training / Skills / Experience:

B.S. degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering with a minimum of 5 years of experience

5 years experience with the design and development of embedded software code, C /C++

5 years experience with both AVR, and ARM based microcontrollers

Experience designing and debugging protocols for communication between devices or controllers

Ability to generate software requirements specifications

Experience in the development of software verification and validation tests

Experience in software version control systems and bug tracking systems

Experience with serial communications protocols and formats including but not limited to RS232, USB, DQ, 1-Wire, Firewire, SWD, I2C, MDI, SPI, etc.

Current Secret security clearance or ability to obtain

Preferred Additional Skills

Extensive experience in implementation of Atmel / Microchip microcontrollers

Experience and knowledge of a hardware description language such as Verilog and VHDL

Familiarity with Python

Experience with Ground and/or Airborne Military radio equipment

Experience with working with displays such as OLED, LCD, etc.
