Loyola University Maryland's office of marketing and communications seeks a Social Media Manager to plan, implement, manage, and monitor Loyola's social media presence to increase brand awareness and support the University's priority goals of enrollment, retention, and engagement.

The Social Media Manager ensures social channels maintain a positive presence in line with Loyola's overarching mission and brand strategy through content marketing, event and mission promotion, and engagement with members of the Loyola community, prospective students and families, and other key stakeholders. The Social Media Manager must have a strong understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion to create engaging content that appeals to multiple audiences within and beyond the Loyola community. This role also calls for an awareness of activities on campus to both promote and cover various University events.

This position requires excellent writing and editing skills with an ability to adapt voice and tone to varying audiencesas well as a demonstrated flexibility in writing styles, including professional voice and creative approaches to social media content and storytelling through various social media platformsand with attention to each platform's audience, features, and uses.

The Social Media Manager also oversees and advises campus partners and students who contribute content and manage University social media channels. Serving as the subject matter expert on social media, the Social Media Manager is responsible for following trends in social media to stay current on changes and new approachesand evaluating new platforms and determining viability for use at Loyola. They will continue to develop the University's social media policies and educate the Loyola community on the proper use of and best practices for social media.

Core Responsibilities
  • Build and manage Loyola University Maryland's social media profiles and presence, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, Snapchat, and other platforms
  • Collaborate with the marketing and communications team to develop content and curate postings to align messages with the University's strategic mission and priorities
  • Cover and/or coordinate coverage of University events, including evening and weekends as necessary
  • Support University-wide crisis communications and create social media components for critical messaging
  • Amplify messages and activities of our strategic campus partners
  • Monitor, listen, and engage in social media discussions about Loyola, and moderate as needed
  • Increase engagement and build conversations around the University and our content with prospective and current students, alumni, faculty and staff, the media, government officials, and other interested parties
  • Identify social influencers within the Loyola community and build partnerships that increase content engagement
  • Conduct ongoing evaluation and analysis regarding the effectiveness of the University's social media strategy and activityand propose and execute new content and tactics in keeping with developments in technology and trends; further develop the University's social media strategy with appropriate metrics
  • Hire, mentor, and supervise the work of student interns who will help produce content
  • Oversee and maintain a social media content calendar for all social channels
  • Create social media toolkits for larger campaigns


Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 1-3 years relevant work experience in communication, marketing, public relations, digital media, or related field
  • Substantial knowledge of established social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, Snapchat, LinkedIn, TikTok, etc.) and emerging social media channels
  • Demonstrated awareness and experience in developing and managing content and campaigns for a dynamic brand
  • Exceptional communication skills: verbal, written, and visualincluding strong social photography skills
  • Capable, creative self-starter and innovative thinker who can contribute and execute out-of-the-box ideas and strategies both in terms of use of social platforms and content for specific channels
  • Proven professional experience managing multiple social media sites and communities for higher education, business, political, or other organizations or brandswith measurable success
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience collaborating with diverse constituents and stakeholders across an organization to achieve consistent brand messaging and a larger social media strategy
  • Experience with live streaming services and technology
  • Experience and skills with photography, photo editing, video production, and digital video editing
  • A strong understanding of Facebook's business manager platform
  • A strong understanding of the difference between organic and paid social activityand how to leverage them together
  • Experience working with social media dashboards and monitoring tools
  • Working knowledge of design software
  • Basic web design experience with HTML and CSS
