As a Senior Writer, you will use all types of writing and communication skills on multiple projects and responsibilities by

  • Helping complete project deliverables:
    • Working with clients, project team, and other writers to clarify project purpose and determine approach
    • Researching multiple information sources (e.g., interviews, the internet, peer-reviewed literature, reports)
    • Developing written and online materials (e.g., templates, reports, presentation slides, guidebooks, planning documents, listserv announcements)
    • Complying with Government Printing Office (GPO) and American Psychological Association (APA) styles and other standards required by contracts
    • Ensuring appropriate organization, transition, grammar, readability, conciseness, and clarity of documents
    • Working with graphic artists and photographers to prepare camera-ready copy, approve layouts, and revise text to ensure conformity with client standards and expectation
  • Assisting with a variety of meeting, training, and technical assistance activities:
    • Preparing supporting materials as needed
    • Taking minutes at internal meetings and preparing formal notes of external meetings
    • Writing learning objectives
    • Developing engaging curriculum and training materials and manuals
    • Developing pre-tests and satisfaction assessments to help determine the effectiveness of training sessions
  • Promoting new business:
    • Co-authoring proposals for new contacts
    • Contributing to new business development efforts
    • Collaborating with the marketing department on external communication materials
  • Managing projects:
    • Monitoring timelines and budgets
    • Interfacing with clients
    • Supervising staff as needed

Knowledge and Traits

Candidates with the following knowledge and traits are encouraged to apply:

General

  • Writing engaging content for different audiences in a variety of formats
  • Synthesizing complex content into concise language/plain language
  • Providing onsite and virtual writing/editing assistance to providers/client
  • Organizing and leading a team as needed

Technical

  • Proficiency with MS Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Skype for Business
  • Familiarity with SharePoint and virtual meeting platforms
  • Willingness to learn and use new software as needed
  • Expertise with GPO, APA, and other style guidelines

Education and Training

Candidates with a master's degree in writing, English, mental health, or social science are preferred, but those with a bachelor's degree in one of the same fields and significant experience will be considered

Professional Experience

We are seeking candidates with at least 6 years of experience as a writer or editor, including proposal development work. A background in mental health, substance use, or health care is preferred. Academic or technical writing experience is a plus
