Advocates for Human Potential (AHP), a leader in the field of behavioral and mental health consulting, has an immediate opening for a Senior Researcher. Our team is focused on a broad range of independent projects, including but not limited to examining the impacts of public policies on cannabis use outcomes and separately to leverage predictive analytics to better understand domestic terrorism. The successful candidate will conduct work under the supervision of the Director of Research to conduct quantitative analyses for a broad range of existing projects and will be empowered to lead independent research efforts as part of their role. The projects in question are experimental in nature, and function within an adaptive, fast-paced, client-focused environment.

Position responsibilities:

Flexibly work under the direction of and in collaboration with the Director of Research on study design, analytic approach, and results.

Program or organize complex data manipulations (e.g., reshaping, stacking, merging/joining) to create analytic datasets that combine data from multiple sources.

Clean datasets to identify outliers, assign missing values, etc.

Select appropriate statistical methods and conduct complex quantitative and qualitative analyses

Summarize results of requested analyses in tabular format and produce data visualizations for internal and external use.

Work with senior investigators to prepare presentations, white-papers, peer-reviewed manuscripts, and other reporting products.

Write study design, methods, and results sections of funder reports.

Collaborate with the Director on identifying proposals and related business development opportunities.

Collaborate with other analysts in creating reusable statistical code and data pipelines to increase analytic efficiency across multiple projects.

Supervise and coach junior researchers.

Master's or Ph.D. degree in social sciences, statistics, or biostatistics with three or more years of experience in applied research projects in behavioral health, public health or social science conducting rigorous analyses

Must be comfortable providing consulting and research services focused on cannabis regulation, to state cannabis regulatory agencies and other organizations associated with legal cannabis

Demonstrated capacity to engage in research projects with cross-functional teams and translate research methods and findings to non-technical stakeholders

Must be comfortable placing their name on reports and other cannabis-related deliverables

Proficiency in a quantitative data analysis tool/languages (Stata, R, or SPSS required).

Fluent in statistical methodology and analyses including, mixed methods design and analyses, descriptive statistics and data visualization, linear models and generalized linear models, multilevel modeling

Proficient in statistical methodology including longitudinal methods or difference-in-differences analyses, and experience writing and interpreting findings from such analyses

Preferred qualifications

Experience researching cannabis use or cannabis-related outcomes

Experience interpreting policy outcomes

Experience performing research on substance use or other health outcomes in a client-focused role outside of academia

Experience working in local, state, or federal government

Demonstrate proficiency in using SQL and/or Python to scrap secondary data from the web
