About the position
The Senior Manager, Strategy and Operations will have a lead role in building JFFLab's critical strategic planning and operations functions. This person will work closely with JFFLab's COO and leadership to create annual plans and quarterly business reviews. This person will also lead internal projects across JFFLabs functions that incorporate external research, span multiple projects, and promote data-driven decision making. The Senior Manager will work closely with diverse stakeholders across JFF and must be well-versed in business operations, demonstrate strong judgment, and possess excellent interpersonal and leadership skills.

What you'll do:
The Senior Manager, Strategy and Operations will support JFFLabs across these major areas of work:
Strategic Operations
  • Oversee strategic reports and dashboards, as well as board meeting materials
  • With input from executive and leadership team, set up discussions and deliverables to create an annual vision, strategy, goals dashboard
  • Support budgeting and fiscal reporting working closely with the Labs COO
  • Support Labs team retreat meetings and quarterly Labs operational reviews:
  • Set agendas
  • Manage cross-functional teams to report on progress
  • Organize pre-meetings with CEO, Executive Director, and COO to discuss key themes and special topics, organize logistics, and facilitate discussion
  • Collect feedback, follow-up action items, and draft and share summary reports and supporting materials with the broader organization
  • Help communicate strategy, priorities, and progress to staff by drafting reports, slides, blog posts, and other materials to be shared through email communication and in team meetings


Business Analysis
  • Provide recommended actions to leadership based on research and analysis
  • Explore new opportunities, including new or expanded products or services, new external partnerships, and coordinating due diligence for entering new business areas
  • Work directly with the COO, JFFLabs management team and partners to understand business problems that will lead to critical insights across the team
  • Oversee and contribute to ad-hoc analysis to shape operational and strategic decisions


Project and Program Management
  • Drive progress in a startup environment, across a wide variety of responsibilities, projects, activities and tasks
  • Manage a variety of projects, using a lean and agile approach.
  • Directly support the development and implementation of plans to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of our team and the way that we collaborate and drive impact through a matrixed team environment.
  • Play an active role in sustaining and growing the work by contributing to business development/fundraising planning and partnerships. Support our approach for research, pipeline and proposal development.
  • Conceive of and help develop compelling communications and marketing i.e. case studies, briefs, frameworks, tools/resources, etc. that will drive awareness and action in the market

  • You comfortably dive into most/any area of a business or product, and possess 5+ years of work experience in strategy or consulting, preferably in software or internet
  • You're an adept communicator who can manage cross-business-unit collaboration, influencing individuals at all levels of the organization
  • You can deploy strong data and analytical skills to support thinking through problems, decisions and solutions; you possess advanced Excel skills (e.g., functions, charting, vlookup)
  • You take an entrepreneurial stance in your work, thinking creatively, providing thoughtful, agile insights and suggesting solutions that make efficient use of limited resources
  • You manage up confidently by asking questions, raising concerns and communicating proactively
  • You demonstrate emotional intelligence, picking up on events and interactions (both verbal and non-verbal) and processing those inputs in the context of the project plan

  • You are self-directed, with a constant desire to learn and improve, and an ego-less "ready to help with anything" attitude
