The Application Analyst provides support with HIM team for electronic medical records as well as any related software upgrades. They will assist Director of Health Information Management throughout various project plans and contribute to the success of timely met tasks and deadlines. Works with all disciplines and support staff providing upmost customer service when offering technical support. Provides clinical assistance as well as training, support and maintenance of the clinical components of the electronic medical record system with oversight by Director of Health Information Management. Assists in developing documentation and implementation of HIM standards that are in line with training curriculum and practices. Performs other duties as assigned.


  1. Provides initial and continuing education of policies and procedures regarding the clinical use of the electronic medical record system.
  2. Analyzes, designs and implements clinical processes relating to the electronic medical record system. Works in conjunction with clinical and medical staff to meet specific needs and standards, including those of accrediting and regulatory agencies.
  3. Provides support and assistance in resolving routine problems with clinical portions of the electronic medical record system, particularly those related to documentation, forms, guidelines and interventions, and certificates of terminal illness. Responsible for Help Desk including Help Desk Queue, Voicemails, Walk-ups, and Team Tasks via NetSmart HomeCare.
  4. Provides oversight and preserves integrity of the health information record by conducting random audits and review of existing and discharged patients.
  5. Annually continues personal development to enhance practice and profession.
  6. Organizes and performs work effectively and efficiently.
  7. Responsible as key HIM team member for any agency projects.
  8. Maintains and adjusts schedule to enhance program performance.
  9. Demonstrates positive interpersonal relations in dealing with all members of the team.
  10. Maintains and promotes customer satisfaction.
  11. Effectively demonstrates the mission, vision, and values of Lower Cape Fear LifeCare on a daily basis.


  1. Education: BA/BS in Information Technology, Computer Science or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. Licensure / Certifications: None.
  3. Experience: 3 years hospice or home health experience preferred. Experience with use of technology and electronic medical record systems essential. Ability to communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences. Ability to provide training for clinical staff in both small and large group settings. Capacity building experience, and knowledge of adult learning principles preferred.
  4. Essential Technical / Motor Skills: Ability to read, write, and speak English. Have a working knowledge of clinical and direct patient care processes. Able to communicate, interpret, and critically think using clinical perspective. Ability to operate computer terminal.
  5. Interpersonal Skills: Ability to deal with other staff in a positive and professional manner. Understands the principles of adult learning and has ability to teach others.
  6. Essential Physical Requirements: Ability to sit for extended periods of time. Ability to lift or push a minimum of 10 pounds.
  7. Essential Mental Abilities: Ability to apply judgment and reasoning to prioritize work, make appropriate decision, and understand, follow, and recall verbal and written instructions.
  8. Essential Sensory Requirements: Ability to see and speak clearly in order to perform basic job functions.
  9. Exposure to Hazards: Occasionally susceptible to eyestrain due to extended periods of work on CRT terminals, potentially stressful. When making home visits with staff, may be occasional exposure to blood and body fluids, infectious diseases. May be exposed to dangerous animals and traffic hazards while home visiting. May encounter patients and other situations, which present a potential threat to personal safety. May encounter temperature changes and weather extremes.
  10. Other - Hours of Work: 40 hour week, Monday Friday with some additional hours as required and 24 hour responsibility for supporting clinical support of clinical applications. Flexible schedule to accommodate training needs which may include weekends/ holidays and shift work.
