Advancing Knowledge and Learning


1. Develop and deliver OUPs global publishing strategy in the areas of Tech Regulation, Competition, IP, and EU Law.

2. Pursue and develop innovative publishing opportunities (subject areas, topics, series, authors), new relationships with societies, professional bodies, and co-publishing partners, and Open Access projects across a variety of formats in alignment with strategic goals, diversity and inclusion goals, and the Presss mission

3. Propose and develop new content according to academic quality, market appeal, and financial criteria, for internal and Delegate consideration

4. Use data reporting, market research, and sales analysis to identify insights that help define the acquisitions strategy.

5. Define and manage the content strategy for the Press online products offerings, with a view to enhancing scope and diversity; maintain relationships with external editors and scholarly societies to ensure the content meets user needs.

6. Build and leverage extensive author networks and reviewer pools, in keeping with OUPs diversity and inclusion goals.

7. Forge solid links with the Delegates and the University to ensure good two-way communication and a constructive working relationship.

8. Use standing and visibility in the academic or professional community to clearly communicate the value of OUPs offer (quality, impact, amplification, reach) to authors and other stakeholders, and support programs to improve the author experience.

9. Guide authors in strategies to amplify content and usage.

10. Draft and negotiate contracts to secure competitive IP, including for complex projects, and optimize flexibility/future publishing models.

11. Collaborate with Content Development to improve the publishing process, contribute subject knowledge and experience, and support the delivery of content post-contract.

12. Take a leadership role in internal projects, promote innovation, and contribute to cross-functional initiatives and committees.

  • Extensive knowledge of and experience with practitioner and/or academic publishing, with a record of publishing key copyrights and creating strong relationships with scholars, societies, firms, professional bodies, and/or other key stakeholders
  • Proven track record of managing the content acquisition (commissioning) process
  • Knowledge of Tech Regulation, Competition, IP, and/or EU Law is desirable
  • Experience with Open Access publishing and the launch and development of digital products
  • Proven experience conducting market research and data analysis
  • Proven experience of building, maintaining, and utilizing networks within the publishing industry and relevant academic or professional communities
  • Experience of mentoring is desirable
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to new systems and processes
  • Ability to work with peers and cross-functionally in a productive manner (including within the matrix management structure of the Press) towards a common purpose
  • Excellent written communication as well as strong presentation, interpersonal, and verbal skills

Based on experience, this role can be hired at the Acquisitions Editor or Senior Acquisitions Editor level.

Position Location: This position can be hybrid out of Cary, NC, New York, NY or Sunderland, MA. This role can also be remote.

GJC Level: I6 (for internal purposes only)
