Job Summary
The Salem Housing Authority is hiring a Limited Duration Accounts Specialist! We are looking for candidates who have great attention to detail, excellent customer service and team collaboration skills, and strong organizational and time management skills. As an Accounts Specialist, you will assist in the day to day financial operations of the Salem Housing Authority (SHA) by ensuring transactions are recorded in accordance with SHA policies and procedures, GAAP, GASB, and FASB as applicable. Primary emphasis will be in accounts payable processing and supporting the Accounting team. This position will also play an integral part in the issuance of funds provided by the State's Landlord Compensation Fund: setting up vendors, communicating payment status and tracking of funds, as well as the general ledger entries and account reconciliation.

The ideal candidate will have experience maintaining and understanding confidentiality of financial records and clients; performing account maintenance, identifying discrepancies or variances, generating reports, working independently to accomplish tasks; and familiarity with using multiple computer systems with emphasis in spreadsheets, word and accounting software.

What are the minimum qualifications?
  • Must pass the pre-employment background check.
  • May require an Oregon Driver's license and a driving record that meets the Salem Housing Authority's driving standards.
  • Graduation from high school or GED, supplemented by two (2) year college or vocational courses in accounting, government accounting, bookkeeping, accounts reconciliation or business preferred.
  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible bookkeeping or accounts reconciliation experience, preferably in municipal government, experience in accounting clerical procedures and one (1) year of experience in governmental accounting.
  • Any combination of experience and training sufficient to support the knowledge, skills, and abilities required.
