Job Description:

The Institute of International Education (IIE) is a global not-for-profit that designs and implements international education strategies and program services. We work with governments, policymakers, educators, and employers across the globe to prepare students and professionals for the global workforce. With support from donors, we also create initiatives that assist students, scholars, and artists whose lives and work are threatened; expand teaching and learning across cultures; and provide opportunities to underserved populations. IIE's various domestic and international offices carry out these programs across the world.

IIE is currently seeking a a Senior Accountant, General Ledger (GL), within the Controller department, which provides support for IIE's financial functions by providing accounting expertise and daily financial operations management. The Senior Accountant, GL provides trial balance accounting expertise and is responsible for assigned balance sheet account reconciliations. This position supports International Office (IO) accounting operations, reviewing all IO balance sheet reconciliations and approving journals from those offices.

This position will also participate in the annual year end and compliance audits and serve as subject matter expert on IIE's various GL reconciliations. The Senior Accountant, GL works with Program Finance and Business Analytics (PFA), Financial Planning & Analysis, and other program and infrastructure teams across IIE to ensure that IIE financial records are complete, for timely and accurate reporting and billing.

The Institute of International Education ("IIE") has a hybrid work environment that allows team members a combination of in-office work and telework at any of the locations listed above.

Essential Functions:
Prepares, analyzes, and/or reviews domestic and international balance sheet account reconciliations on a monthly basis.
Identifies and resolves any reconciling items in a timely manner, by reviewing with managers and partnering with applicable stakeholders including but not limited to: program team members, Program Finance & Business Analytics, Human Resources, Admin Services, Financial Planning & Analysis, Internal Audit, and Grants and Contracts/Legal.
Identifies and recommends accounting and financial operations process improvements to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and timeliness.
Participates in annual year-end and compliance audits, communicating directly with auditors to explain processes and procedures and providing audit support for PBC Request list.
Participates in the month-end close process by creating, reviewing and approving journal entries.
Works with banking institution and program teams to administer a prepaid debit card program and other approved payment methods as needed.
Participates in and/or manages relevant ad hoc projects as assigned.

Job Requirements:

Education and Work Experience:
Requires a Bachelor's degree and at least five years of related work experience, or combination education and experience.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Advanced General Ledger reconciliation experience, required.
Demonstrated high attention to detail.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
Strong organizational skills, ability to multitask and prioritize workflow.
Ability to work collaboratively within a team and across departments and IIE offices.
Demonstrated proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, macros, sumifs etc.).
Strong communications skills with the ability to discuss accounting principles with various audiences.
