Job Summary:

Job Summary: This position teaches, supports and supervises Education programs at Denver Botanic Gardens, Denver Botanic Gardens Chatfield Farms, schools and other locations. The Coordinator works alongside volunteers and staff to implement interactive, hands-on, plant-based curriculum to PreK-12th grade students. Programs include but are not limited to school field trip visits, offsite outreach, guided tours, summer camps and special events. Additionally, this position coordinates program logistics, maintains materials, keeps accurate records, supervises assigned staff and supports other program efforts.

Compensation: $20.00-$20.67

Qualifications/Experience:

Prior knowledge and previous experience is required, including at least a Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university in biology, or education or a related field, and at least one year experience teaching and managing a group of students (preK-12) in a formal or informal environment, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Flexibility in changing circumstances and high energy required. Must be capable of moving and communicating for a long period of time. Must be capable of working independently and in a team environment. Must be available to work flexible hours during work week and occasional weekends. Must currently possess, or be able to obtain, a valid Colorado State driver's license, plus an acceptable driving record. Reliable access to a dependable, insured, and privately-owned vehicle is necessary. Must currently qualify, or able to qualify, as a child care director, including CPR and First Aid Certification. Familiarity with Microsoft Windows based systems and the Microsoft office based software (Word, Excel, Outlook, and scheduling software) required. Knowledge and experience in teaching a variety of age levels and diverse populations using a hands-on, constructivist philosophy is desirable. Previous experience supervising summer camps, day cares or informal youth education is desirable. Experience teaching biological, botanical, or environmental topics is desirable. Spanish-speaking desirable.

Essential Job Duties:

Coordinate implementation of assigned education programs, leading assigned efforts and initiatives within the overall Denver Botanic Gardens Education effort.
Coordinate logistics of assigned programs, including but not limited to materials, records, and adherence to guidelines.
Lead programs at Denver Botanic Gardens locations to groups of school-age students.
Provide program introduction to groups of elementary-age students, teachers and parent chaperones.
Teach Cultivation Cruiser programs to groups of PreK-12th grade students at area schools and other locations.
Lead children in hands-on, interactive activities during camps.
Supervise children during camp lunchtime.
Supervise instructors or volunteers as assigned.
Communicate with parents in regard to their child's presence at camp or other programs.
Ensure all child care license obligations are fulfilled for assigned programs.
Set up and take down program materials.
Send out program confirmations to teachers and volunteers.
Maintain a safe environment for class and program participants and address first aid issues.
Work in coordination with on-site staff to ensure program and organizational success. Coordinate all scheduling within established protocols.
Accurately schedule, record, and communicate programs, facilities, instructors, resources, registrations and other data.
Develop curriculum for new programs in conjunction with school program staff and others. Keep currently-used curriculum available and organized.
Research and resolve disputes and problems within established guidelines.

Other Job Duties:


Assist the marketing and education teams in developing, implementing and improving marketing plans and strategies.
Serve as contact for relevant program partnerships when needed.
Assist with other children's programs as needed.
Work with all departments to assure highest quality experience for all Denver Botanic Gardens visitors and customers.
Maintain satisfactory working relationships with managers, co-workers and others.
