Burke Distributing, a local beer distributor that has been in business for 86 years, is looking to hire a Safety and Human Resources Generalist. Are you ready for the next step in your HR career? At Burke, you will own the Safety and Onboarding process. You will have the opportunity to look for process improvements while bringing on best in class talent and reducing our accidents and injuries.

Primary Purpose:

Responsible for providing administrative support to the Human Resources department through a full range of safety and human resources activities.

Responsibilities:

Safety Administration:

  • Assist employees and managers in the completion of accident and injury reports
  • Report accidents and injuries into our claims management system
  • Be the point of contact with TPA, Gallagher Bassett
  • Attend monthly webinars with our insurance captive
  • Be point of contact with Risk Safety Consultant
  • Partnering with our network of Safety Professionals
  • Lead investigation, with support of Operations, for all safety incidents with focus on root cause analysis.
  • Assist with Lytx and use as a training tool
  • Act as a witness to safety related disciplines
  • Communicate with out of work and light duty employees
  • Safety visits at accounts as needed
  • Conduct safety walks in all facilities to include eye wash and AED checks
  • Coordinate monthly Safety Committee Meetings
  • Coordinate Random Drug Testing
  • Coordinate Smith System & Parker training for Drivers as needed
  • Maintains OSHA Log
  • Maintains Driver Qualification (DQ) Files
  • Complete DOT & Employment Verifications
  • Be point of contact for outside vendors
  • Safety training OSHA, National Safety Council

Human Resources Administration:

  • Maintains records by collecting, updating, and organizing all employee personnel information to include, performance reviews, benefit files, etc.
  • Maintains employee data into Human Resource Information System
  • Recruiting for multiple departments
  • Schedule Interviews, background checks, scheduling pre-employment testing & Orientation
  • Continually improves new employee onboarding; creates a positive onboarding experience
  • Assist in Employee Relations
  • Work cohesively with all departments
  • Coordinate required annual training (Harassment, Workplace Violence, etc.).
  • Other training as needed

And other duties as assigned.

Required Skills:

Working knowledge of employment laws

Strong computer skills, including MS Office and Human Resources Information Systems

Willingness to work in a team-based environment and commitment to continuous learning and improvement

Demonstrates written, verbal, interpersonal, and organizational skills

Ability to recognize sensitive material and maintain a high level of confidentiality

Exceptional employee relations, communications, and organizational skills

Attention to detail, sound judgment and reasoning skills

Self-motivated and comfortable performing projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities

Must be able to establish credibility and be decisive and resourceful and be people, service and results oriented

Experience:

Bachelor's degree required

2-4 years' experience in the Human Resources

Experience in a manufacturing or distribution environment required

Union experience preferred

Working knowledge of OSHA regulations preferred
