We are seeking a Data Analyst to join our research team, supporting our not for profit, mission-driven organization through the conception, planning, management and implementation of research projects, maintenance of data management systems, performing quantitative analysis, and leading data collection activities. The Data Analyst actively participates in developing methodological approaches to understand key issues impacting members, manages research activities, and produces briefs, reports, and presentations. The Data Analyst is expected to be highly organized, results oriented, an excellent writer, and have strong analytical skills.

  • Full lifecycle activities of data analytics to include requirements and design, data cleaning, developing analysis and reporting capabilities, linking databases and data sets
  • Oversee data collection activities, cleaning/standardization, and ongoing maintenance of the organization's data warehouse
  • Conceptualize and conduct analyses of healthcare datasets to inform the organization's research and policy positions
  • Develop and conduct surveys to collect information from member organizations that is not available from other sources
  • Serve as the project manager for the annual member Characteristics Survey, including coordinating other project staff
  • Use a variety of data sources, including the organization's data warehouse and other national and state databases, to synthesize and interpret trends in healthcare access, affordability, and quality
  • Lead the creation of briefs and reports for professional and lay audiences, including the development and distribution of white papers, briefs, member performance reports, infographics, maps, etc.
  • Respond to research data inquiries from staff, members, and the public at-large
  • Serve as a resource for member data needs, representing the values and character of the association
  • Conduct literature searches and summarize information in an appropriate format for a particular study
  • Lead quantitative research tasks in conjunction with funded projects; and
  • Provide data and research support for grant preparation and development.


  • Master's degree in public policy, public administration, public health, statistics, computer science, or related fields and 4+ years of experience in a similar position
  • Bachelors degree may be considered with at least 7 years of relevant experience in a similar position
  • Knowledge and understanding of health policy and services
  • Familiarity with healthcare policy related data sets such as CMS Hospital Compare, HCRIS, Federal Regulatory Files, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage research tasks
  • Experience performing data manipulation and analyses using SAS, STATA, or R (preferred) and/or other statistical analysis software
  • Familiarity with Structured Querying Language (SQL) and database principles
  • Excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Analyze and interpret results of own/group research, making use of standard and new research methods and techniques
  • High degree of proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Access
