Position Summary

Senior research position to conduct extramurally funded neuroscience research related to drug screening for memory disorders, synaptic transmission, hippocampal synaptic plasticity and glutamatergic signaling in rodent models.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Primary responsibilities are to conduct electrophysiological recordings (extracellular field potential and patch clamp) in brain slice preparations in rodents.
  • Proficiency in rodent handling, acute brain slice preparation, field potential and whole cell patch clamp recording techniques a must.
  • Experience with optical imaging tools (2-photon) and strong writing skills a plus.
  • Additional duties include rodent surgical procedures, transcardial perfusions, and tissue collection, as well as data analysis, manuscript preparation and writing associated with project.
  • Mentoring/teaching techniques to qualified students and technicians is also essential.
  • Willingness to participate in several ongoing projects is a plus.

Required Education & Experience
  • 3+ years of electrophysiology experience required, ideally in rat/mouse brain slice preparations.
  • Ph.D in neuroscience or related field preferred but not required if technically capable of executing the experiments with a demonstrated expertise in electrophysiology.
  • Must achieve satisfactory results from a background check.
  • Must have proof of covid19 vaccination or a university approved exemption.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Demonstrated expertise in brain slice preparations/patch clamp electrophysiology, in vitro rodent recordings, and rat and mouse handling.
  • Fluent English speaker with strong reading, writing and communication skills.
  • Works well within a group setting, and is highly independent and self-motivated.
  • Familiar with standard Windows Office software, PClamp, spreadsheet applications, and graphics applications.
