Advocates for Human Potential, Inc. (AHP), is seeking four full-time Evaluation Research Assistants to join our team of researchers in various behavioral health studies.

About AHP

Founded in 1986, AHP (www.ahpnet.com) is a consulting and research firm dedicated to improving behavioral health and human service systems. AHP offers research and evaluation, technical assistance and training, resource development and dissemination, professional consultation, and system and program development. Our core content areas include substance abuse treatment and support services, mental health policy and services, co-occurring disorders, homelessness and housing, criminal justice, and other public and behavioral health issues.

The Research Assistant position is located within our Research and Evaluation Department (R&E). The R&E team provides a range of services including program process and outcome evaluations, evaluation technical assistance, research study design and implementation, data collection and field operations, study participant tracking and retention strategies, database development and data management, and quantitative and qualitative data analyses.

Position and Responsibilities

The Research Assistant position will work across various program evaluations, conducting a range of data collection and management activities, field operations, and administrative and support functions. Specific tasks are listed below.

  • Data collection, data entry, data cleaning and coding.
  • Enroll, track, and conduct telephone interviews with study participants; maintaining high follow-up rates.
  • Meet regularly with the project team to discuss interviewing, data collection and quality, successes, and challenges.
  • Act as a liaison between the evaluation and program staff regarding data collection, submission, and evaluation-related questions.
  • Manage study incentives (e.g., purchase gift cards, pay participants, distribute gift cards to study sites, maintain payment tracking system).
  • Contribute to literature reviews, reports, and other written work; and help with proposal submissions.

  • A Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, or other health or social science field strongly preferred.
  • Experience with community-based evaluation projects and/or federally funded grant programs. Knowledge of and/or experience with SAMHSA/GPRA data collection required.
  • Social service experience (e.g., substance use treatment/recovery support, mental health, criminal justice, housing/homelessness, etc.) desired.
  • Strong interest in and respect for people struggling with behavioral health issues, experiencing homelessness, and/or involved with the criminal justice system.
  • Ability to build rapport and maintain relationships with colleagues, study participants, partners, and other stakeholders.
  • Detail-oriented, ability to work independently and collaboratively; with the willingness and flexibility to take on new assignments/tasks as needed.
  • Ability to balance and manage priorities and deadlines across multiple projects.
  • Strong knowledge of software commonly used in our projects such as: REDCap and Microsoft products (e.g., Word, Excel, SharePoint, PowerPoint), including the ability to create and format tables and charts, PowerPoint slides, and Word documents.
