The Human Services Research Institute (HSRI) is a nonprofit organization that conducts research and evaluation to improve health and human service systems. We work at the local, state, and federal level. Our goal is to help public agencies understand and demonstrate the real-world impact of the services they provide through research and evaluation, helping them transform their policies and practice to produce meaningful outcomes. This position offers an exciting opportunity to support research on several large-scale child welfare and education projects.

What Were Looking For

Were seeking a full-time Research Assistant to join the Child Youth and Family team at HSRI. Our team focuses our research within the fields of child welfare and its intersection with other child, youth, and family services.

We are especially interested in applicants with training/education in all areas of human service, including: social work, psychology, sociology, mental health, juvenile justice, and the social welfare system.

The ideal candidate is someone who is willing to cheerfully support our teams research activities and who enjoys working as part of a team.


  • Maintain project records and files
  • Schedule, coordinate, and take meeting notes
  • Perform literature reviews
  • Test surveys and interview guides
  • Code data and documents
  • Make basic computations
  • Assist with the development of reports and briefs by conducting fact checking, editing, and generating basic tables and graphics
  • Additional duties, as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • a B.A. or B.S. degree or 1-2 years of relevant experience
  • Good communication, organization, and writing skills
  • Experience conducting literature searches
  • Basic experience with statistical software and/or qualitative and quantitative software packages
  • Ability to learn additional software and applications such as those utilized for web conferencing and online meetings, and for managing and storing project schedules, information, and materials
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Spanish bilingual is preferred, but not required

Working Conditions:

  • This is a fully remote position
  • Travel to special events and/or off-site meetings may be required (COVID-willing)
  • Routine meetings are held virtually
  • All work is performed in a team-driven environment
