Position Summary

The R&D Lead for Vidium Animal Health, a subsidiary of TGen, is an experienced cancer genomics product development professional who is passionate about improving the lives of pets. Vidium's mission is to guide veterinarians and families through the difficult journey following a pet cancer diagnosis by providing them with the most cutting-edge information possible. The R&D Lead will work as a part of a dynamic team in a fast-paced, startup environment in a position with significant growth potential toward creating a leading company in the field of veterinary diagnostics.

The R&D Lead has multi-dimensional expertise in cancer genomic and molecular diagnostic product development with specific expertise in cancer NGS assay development and non-invasive diagnostics. S/He will develop and execute projects within Vidium's R&D program. They will be responsible for coordinating projects as well as the individual work of testing and validating molecular and genomic assays, creating SOPs, documenting results, and transferring protocols to Vidium's clinical genomics laboratory. The R&D Lead reports to the Head of Bioinformatics & Product Development and works closely with the Chief Scientific Officer while also partnering with leaders across departments, particularly the Liquid Biopsy Lead, to leverage expertise from cross-functional teams for assay development and deployment efforts that carry out our mission.

Job Duties

• Collaboratively design and lead development of innovative NGS-based oncology assays in veterinary diagnostics while working cross-functionally with other scientific, clinical, and operations teams
• Perform lab and project managerial duties including managing timelines and resources such as oversight of equipment, supplies, ordering, and documentation in the R&D laboratory
• Execute complex laboratory experiments such as analyte extractions (DNA, RNA, cfDNA) and QC (quantity, fragments size), PCR, sequencing library preparation, and more
• Participate in exploration of new technologies to advance Vidium's product portfolio including assessment of new products, platforms, and companies as well as communication with possible partners and evaluation of customer and market requirements
• Accession, process and store blood, plasma and other biological materials
• Communicate and discuss results with a multidisciplinary team including clinicians, biologists, bioinformaticians, statisticians, software engineers and managers
• Communicate and discuss results with external audiences including preparation of papers, abstracts, and presentations at conferences
• Write protocols and document results including scientific data interpretation, product development requirements and plans, development reports, SOPs, and results validation
• Coordinate with the Clinical Laboratory Manager for new assay productionalization

• Master's degree or Ph.D. in a relevant scientific field (Cancer Genomics, Biological Sciences, Cancer Biology, Genetics, Genomics, Molecular Biology, or equivalent).
• 3+ years' experience in academia or industry developing and validating next generation sequencing (NGS) assays
• Experience in early detection and non-invasive diagnostic technologies based on circulating free DNA analysis
• Strong foundation in molecular biology and biochemistry techniques especially with regards to nucleic acids
• Experience working with DNA/cfDNA/RNA/blood samples
• Hands-on experience with basic molecular biology techniques, including PCR, QRT-PCR, digital PCR, nucleic acid extractions, and NGS
• Able to handle manual work/pipetting involving high-throughput sample testing
• Must have excellent communication, organizational, record-keeping, planning, time management, analytical and problem-solving skills
• Demonstrated success in applying independent scientific judgment in experimental design and analysis
• Skilled at writing clear plans, reports and SOPs
• Enjoy working independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities
• Specific expertise in canine cancer genomics is a plus, but not required
