The Reliability Engineer drives reliability improvements at Braskems three Texas sites (La Porte, Oyster Creek, and Seadrift), influence decisions makers and advocate for reliability behaviors with a positive reliability mindset, and conduct risk assessments, based on quantitative and qualitative research, to demonstrate appropriate risk to improve work selection process. The Reliability Engineer will support project organization to deliver the next generation of reliable equipment to the production sites. The Reliability Engineer reports administratively to the Equipment Excellence Leader with collaborative support to the site Maintenance Group and operating units.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Participates in reliability reviews for new designs and plant operation changes, to ensure reliability work practices are incorporated into management of change processes.
  • Assists in development of operating envelopes, preventive & predictive maintenance, equipment strategies, etc. for major and minor capital ventures and perform comparative analysis between failure patterns and rates to current maintenance strategies and update as needed (both Mechanical and IE assets).
  • Influences decision makers and advocate for reliability behaviors with a positive reliability mindset, and acts a bridge between site maintenance and SME functions to communicate and implement best practices in design & maintenance of assets.
  • Conducts risk assessments, based on quantitative and qualitative research, to demonstrate appropriate risk to improve work selection process.
  • Seeks to characterize various risk-based degradation scenarios, failure modes, and failure effect on all types of equipment
  • Develops and delivers reliability training to address identified gaps
  • Creates and implements reliability practice improvements Responsible for leading Equipment Strategies, Criticality and FMEA/RCM studies.
  • Supports development of reliability stewardship reports required by the businesses, leads reliability improvement teams at each site, and responsible for steering the teams towards improved reliability.
  • Performs data mining, modelling and analytics on failure history and uptime to determine failure patterns, gap, mean life, etc. (Pareto analysis, Growth analysis, Weibull, RBD modelling, etc.).
  • Participates in assessments to measure effectiveness of reliability related activities, and assists management alignment on risk and mitigation activities.


  • Bachelors of Science in Engineering
  • 8 or more years experience in Chemical, Petrochemical or Refining facilities
  • Experience supporting petrochemical industry operations
  • Experience in conducting risk assessment and risk base work selection activities
  • Experience in facilitating teams & team decision making
  • Experience in reliability analysis (Pareto charts, growth charts)
  • Experience in the application of reliability methodologies/technologies, understanding of
  • equipment damage mechanisms.(Preferably both in mechanical and IE)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (including Excel, Access)
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and stakeholders
  • Communication skills, interpersonal skills, and an ability to deal with all levels within a site organization.
  • Be a self-starter, and demonstrate problem solving, analytical, organizational, and planning skills.

Preferred Skills, Education, and Experience:

  • Experience with Software tools such as SAP, Reliasoft and Maximo.
  • CMRP or CRE Certification
  • Fundamental understanding of:
    • risk scenario development
    • risk assessment
    • risk-based work selection
  • Fundamental knowledge of:
    • Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) concepts
    • FMEA

Must be currently eligible to work in the United States without the need for any type of sponsorship.
