Overview

The Relationship Manager will lead prospect research and customer relationship development and management to drive sales of customized group infection prevention and control (IPC) training and courses. Clients will include, but are not limited to, departments of health, federal/state/local government, and private industry. This position is responsible for developing and managing relationships with prospective group training clients. The Relationship Manager will support customized training proposal and budget development (from templates) and contract negotiation and execution, in collaboration with the Associate Director of Grants & Business Development.

This position requires an individual who is committed to APICs mission to advance the science and practice of infection prevention and control, is entrepreneurial in spirit and has a strong business acumen. The Relationship Manager is expected to perform the duties and responsibilities with exceptional attention to detail. The ability to exercise good judgment in a variety of situations, strong written and verbal communication, organizational skills, and the ability to maintain a realistic balance among multiple priorities is also needed. The Relationship Manager must be able to work under pressure to handle a wide variety of activities and respond to inquiries within a timely manner. This position has significant interaction with members, vendors, and APIC staff.

This is a local or remote position. Local candidates are defined as a person having a legal residence in DC, MD, or VA and lives within 75 miles of our HQ in Arlington, VA. Local candidates will have telework options available up to five days per week. Remote candidates are defined as candidates are those that live outside the definition of a local candidate. Remote candidates work from home five days per week. All employees of APIC are expected to attend meetings in person as needed, be it at our HQ in Arlington or for travel.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Prospect Research and Development (50%)

  • Monitor email inbox and voicemail and respond to inquiries/requests for customized group training in a timely fashion
  • Conduct research to identify prospective customers for group training and courses
  • Strategize and operationalize marketing plan to promote training to prospects
  • Develop and maintain pipeline via CRM database systems
  • Cultivate relationships with existing and potential customers
  • Write and/or edit web content, marketing copy, and customer communications in tandem with marketing

Group Training Sales & Account Management (50%)

  • Track and report customized group training prospects and individual projects, using project tools
  • Schedule and conduct meetings with prospective clients to sell customized IPC training/courses and educational products
  • Work with the prospective client to create a mutually agreed upon scope of work and budget, using templates and pricing models
  • Negotiate and execute contracts in collaboration with the Associate Director of Grants & Business Development
  • Upon contract execution, manage the transition of projects to Education Department staff responsible for execution of training and courses, using project tools
  • Attend regular meetings with Education Department staff to ensure that customized training projects contracted by the Grants & Business Development Department remain on schedule and within scope and budget
  • Maintain customer relationships to ensure successful completion of project requirements and address continuing or future training needs
  • Effectively communicate relevant project information to all team members, supervisor, and staff in other departments, as needed
  • Resolve and/or escalate issues in a timely fashion


Knowledge and Skills required for the position


Education/Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in business administration, marketing, public health, or related field. 3-5 years experience in sales, relationship management, or business development in a public health or healthcare setting.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Advanced knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Advanced database management skills
  • Experience with CRM systems is preferred
  • Relationship building and management skills
  • Research skills ability to research and qualify prospects
  • Program/project management skills ability to set priorities and organize or schedule people or tasks; develops realistic actions plans while being sensitive to time constraints and resource availability.
  • Exceptional communication skills ability to communicate information in a clear and concise manner with individuals at all levels, including clients, members, volunteers, vendors, and APIC staff. Makes clear and convincing oral presentations to individuals or groups; listens effectively and clarifies information as needed; facilitates an open exchange of ideas and fosters an atmosphere of open communication.
  • Excellent writing skills ability to effectively communicate information and ideas in writing so others will understand. Proofreading and editing skills are essential.
  • Exceptional organizational skills that reflect ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of or ability to write content and edit for the Web.
  • Teamwork encourages and facilitates cooperation, pride, trust, and group identity; fosters commitment and team spirit; works with others to achieve goals.
  • Financial management knowledge of budgeting, financial reports, and understanding of business development principles.
