Minimum Qualifications:
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN required.
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Jersey.
  • Certification Board in Infection Control and Hospital Epidemiology (CBIC) and/or theAmerican Board for Occupational Health Nurses (ABOHN) required.
  • A minimum of four years of experience in acute care, public health, or other patient-related clinical experience with two years' experience in occupational health, epidemiology or infection control is required.
  • Applicant must be able to demonstrate an understanding of basic microbiology.
  • Computer proficient, spreadsheet applications required; good organizational, written, and verbal communication skills are essential

POSITION SUMMARY

The Occupational Health Ambulatory Care Infection Preventionist II (IP II) is responsible for Occupational Health program management and administrative responsibilities, recommendations and consultation to AtlantiCare's Risk Management, Legal, Worker Compensation, Occupational Medicine, Human Resources, Safety and Infection Prevention disciplines for the purposes of Occupational Health Regulatory Compliance. Activities include planning, designing, administering and evaluating mandated OSHA, NJ DOH, CMS or Joint Commission compliant activities related to worker health and safety programs within AtlantiCare Health System. The Occupational Health Ambulatory Care IP II is responsible to coordinate the annual influenza vaccination campaign. Further examples of duties include respiratory protection and blood borne pathogen injury prevention program management as well as prevention of employee -related exposures to infectious diseases and the response process if this occurs.

The role is further responsible for identification, investigation, reporting, and expert consultation for prevention and control of health care associated infections (HAI) in the ambulatory setting. The IP II consults with accountable leaders, and professionals, to assure day-to-day infection prevention activities for assigned healthcare services or locations throughout the continuum of care for AtlantiCare and collaborates with the IP Team for program management.

The IP II practices in accordance with accepted standards, regulatory requirements, and the AtlantiCare infection prevention program. The qualified candidate must possess flexibility to be on call to cover emergencies and critical test results for communicable diseases; inter-service location travel occurs. Must be able to handle multiple tasks and complete work within short time frames, and must be able to work at a fast pace with changing and potentially challenging situations. This position requires demonstrated commitment to employee and patient-focused care and must be able to recognize the needs and behaviors of specific age groups and culturally diverse populations.

The Infection Preventionist aligns their career development and goals with APIC's Infection Preventionist competency model and mentors teammates accordingly. The Infection Preventionist II will meet the practice standards set forth by the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Hospital Epidemiology (APIC). and will be responsible for technical skills as listed in the Assessment and Evaluation Tool.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Jersey. The Infection Preventionist II is certified through the Certification Board in Infection Control and Hospital Epidemiology (CBIC) and/or theAmerican Board for Occupational Health Nurses (ABOHN).

EXPERIENCE: A minimum of four years of experience in acute care, public health, or other patient-related clinical experience with two years' experience in occupational health, epidemiology or infection control is required. Applicant must be able to demonstrate an understanding of basic microbiology. Proficiency in Clinical Applications preferred at time of hire; incumbents within position will be trained appropriately and then skill will be required for this position within 30-60 days from date of hire.

Computer proficient, spreadsheet applications required; good organizational, written, and verbal communication skills are essential.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Potential for exposure to the hazards and risks of the hospital environment including exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous substances, and potential injury. Requires the ability to walk, stand, and reach a majority of the time. Intact vision and speech, as well as sufficient hearing also required. May require occasional lifting 20 lbs.
