As a senior member of the Resource Development Team, the Regional Director of Development NNW is accountable for leading the implementation of United Way of Metro Chicagos (UWMC) strategic priorities in Evanston/Skokie, Elgin/Carpentersville, and Palatine. The RDD drives fundraising activities and the recruitment and engagement of the NNW Suburban Regional Board. Additionally, the RDD is engaged with community impact efforts, and represents United Way in numerous community forums and meetings in a manner that represents the values and goals of the organization.


Fundraising 55%

  • Direct aspects of annual and long-term fundraising growth by leveraging support from the NNW Suburban Regional Board, Chief Development Officer (CDO), Metro and local Campaign Cabinets, and Resource Development (RD) colleagues.
  • Manage the acquisition and renewal efforts of non-workplace Leadership and Tocqueville Society donors from the NNW region, via personal outreach, recruiting and supporting volunteer solicitors, and partnering with UWMC RD team.
  • Manage a portfolio of 5-10 individual Tocqueville Society members capable of moving to higher levels of giving.
  • Drive event fundraising efforts in the region, including but not limited to Uniting for the Holidays, and in partnership with NNW Board and UWMC marketing and RD teams.
  • Lead Direct Mail efforts in the region, in conjunction with the RD team.
  • Provide input on strategy to RD colleagues regarding Corporate and Foundation fundraising in the region.
  • Manage local public relations activities coordinating with Marketing and Communications Department.
  • Develop, oversee and analyze goals, projections, pledge information and specific data-driven action plans to ensure donor cultivation and stewardship. Actively monitor results to goals and engage in corrective measures and recovery strategies during the year to achieve target results.
  • Adhere to data standards and protocols for capturing and recording information related to portfolio of accounts.

Community Impact 25%

  • Establish strong agency, community, and regional business collaborative partnerships within the region.
  • In partnership with Community Impact Team, coordinate strategies to position United Way as a key facilitator/community coordinator of health and human services through educational and/or public/civic group relationships and presentations.
  • Represent United Way through service on community forums, coalitions and boards, including the NNW Neighborhood Network in Evanston and the United Palatine Coalition.
  • Identify volunteers from the region to participate in grant making decisions.
  • Provide regional perspective and local community expertise to Community Impact strategy.

Local Board and Volunteer Support 20%

  • Work closely with the President and UWMC senior leadership to build local region oversight through the NNW Suburban Board.
  • Partner with UWMC leadership to identify and develop Board leadership and membership.
  • Implement all policies adopted by UWMC Board of Directors.
  • Coordinate and plan activities to engage Board and committees; prepare all Board materials and attend all volunteer meetings.
  • Manage all official records and reports related to Board or committee meetings or policies.


  • Strong preference for candidate with knowledge of and relationships in the NNW suburban region.
  • Bachelors degree in related field and/or combination of equivalent employment and education experience.
  • Mission driven professional who can transition between working with donors and grantees.
  • Preference for five to seven years of fundraising experience, including the solicitation of $100,000+ gifts from individuals and foundations
  • Impeccable organizational/project management skills; excellent written and oral communication ability
  • Ability to cultivate, engage and maintain professional relationships with donors and volunteers, as exemplified by excellent follow-through skills and the ability to speak with finesse and confidentiality regarding personal philanthropic decisions.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
