Reporting to the Quality Manager/Supervisor, the Quality Assurance Lead trains employees on existing quality systems, provides monthly quality reports, performs environmental testing and other microbiological analysis trending, and fills in when Lab Technician(s) are absent. Trains and supports manufacturing personnel in quality systems to maximize product quality. Initiates problem solving activities relating to quality parameter issues. Supports the continuous training, record keeping, and maintenance of the food safety and quality practices within the Plant. Acts as a point-of-contact, and through professional judgement in evaluation, suggests resolution to food safety and quality concerns in the absence of the Quality Manager/Supervisor.


  • Performs in-process and finished goods product testing when necessary; pull and test out of specification, (OOS product); document quality activities to provide a record of quality compliance efforts
  • Performs environmental monitoring and internal auditing walk-throughs/Quality auditing, root cause analysis and maintains corrective action logs
  • Administer finished goods and raw material quality holds to ensure that quality issues are investigated and effectively dealt with for disposition; release raw materials, when necessary, for use in production process or release product for shipment if quality requirements are compliant
  • Advises manufacturing personnel in the quality system and related quality procedures, responding to quality related issues and providing technical assistance as needed; advise manufacturing personnel on proper product sampling techniques
  • Perform quality investigations and research subsequent to consumer complaints; assist in identifying and solving problems that produce consumer complaints
  • Monitors the process flows from start to finish and updates monthly reports on quality-related aspects of the process
  • When Lab Technicians are absent, will work in their place (must be proficient in lab testing protocols)
  • Back-up for the Quality Manager/Supervisor in minor internal conflicts
  • Provide guidance to lab personnel, reporting product concerns when necessary and updates paperwork to reflect current good laboratory practices when needed
  • Performs incoming ingredients testing, sampling, tracking changes to the controls for monthly evaluations
  • Responsible for ensuring plant sanitation requirements are met; includes monitoring/ auditing effectiveness of cleaning practices using visual and microbiological methods
  • Reviews production paperwork finished product release using laboratory testing results and creates certificate of analysis


  • Must possess good communication skills and the highest integrity in conducting business affairs
  • Must exercise maturity and sound judgment in all dealings and associations with auditors, vendors and customers
  • Must be able to work independently and to organize tasks and manage the workload
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations, while defending decisions in a knowledgeable and rational manner
  • Able to interpret customer requirements and government regulations and apply to products and processes
  • Minimum of two years of experience in a laboratory or food plant environment
  • Good overall knowledge of product quality standards, specifications, laws and regulations established by federal, state, and local agencies
  • Must have thorough knowledge of manufacturing operations, with demonstrable skills in organizing, analyzing, planning and communication

  • Must be able to work on their feet for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to lift, carry, and manipulate 50-pound bags
  • The plant environment involves working in noisy, wet, slippery and hot conditions
  • May be working with hazardous chemicals
  • Hours as directed by management
