This role can sit in New Hampton NY or St. Louis MO.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The incumbent develops, implements, and maintains procurement strategies for capital project, service, and expense spend for Balchem's supply chain. Coordinates with engineering and manufacturing teams to oversee spending and purchases at the most favorable price that is consistent with quality and project requirements. Negotiates with contractors, vendors, and service providers. Manages department employees, establishes and maintains capital and indirect spend procurement processes. Assists with the purchase of raw materials as necessary.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Administers approved policies and procedures to ensure that the purchasing functions are accomplished consistent with Corporate operational and financial standards and within nationally-recognized purchasing practices

  • Operates in strict adherence within Corporate guidelines on business ethics and safety policies. Recommends changes or additional policies where applicable.
  • Solicits proposals from vendors and negotiates the best possible deal for equipment, materials and services, taking into account the quality, service and price for each proposal.
  • Maintains effective administration of the purchasing system, using current ERP, document management, and purchasing information systems.
  • Sets goals, provides oversight, development, and coaching for direct reports.
  • Supports and provides oversight to local buyers, engineers, plant managers, and other stakeholders in purchases of services, equipment and expense items.
  • Establishes purchasing controls and monitors spend and performance of contract service providers for capital projects and corporate services.
  • Follows and enforces all safety policies and procedures including use of safety equipment (PPE) and equipment safeguards. Works to advance and promote the safety culture of the site.
  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum ten (10) years of purchasing experience, preferably in a science field. Manufacturing or Chemical industry experience a plus.
  • Bachelor's Degree, preferably in a Supply Chain or Logistics field, but in a business-related discipline as a minimum.
  • Must have experience working on capital projects and contractors
  • Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices and procedures.
  • Excellent negotiating skills.
  • A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected
  • Ability to communicate professionally with people at all levels of the organization and external contacts.
  • Effective analysis/problem solving/decision-making skills.
  • Ability to develop and implement strategic sourcing plans across multiple sites and business units.
  • Proficient with MRP/ERP systems.
  • Proficient with MS Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access.
  • Organizational skills for efficient office control are mandatory.
  • Solid decision-making skills.
