Advocates for Human Potential (AHP) is growing rapidly and needs someone with a passion for discovering, pursuing, and attaining a diverse range of new business. Your drive, curiosity, creativity, communication, and organizational skills will be fully utilized while managing AHP proposals for contracts/grants and conducting capture and market research, which is the foundation of new business opportunities and our exciting growth. You'll have the opportunity to manage and coordinate proposal activities, create proposal outline and compliance matrices, oversee proposal schedules to ensure timely completion of proposals, manage proposal personnel, and even use your writing and/or editing prowess to develop compelling proposal sections. In your role as Proposal Manager, you'll also have time to conduct research to support and influence corporate decisions about which new opportunities to pursue. Who we are:

AHP is a research and consulting firm specializing in providing evaluation, technical assistance, and consultative services to a broad range of federal, state, local, and community-based agencies. The goal of our work is to translate knowledge and experience into practical strategies that transform systems and change lives, particularly vulnerable populations. Our core content areas include public health; behavioral health policy; mental health and substance use services including prevention, treatment, and recovery supports; trauma; criminal justice; housing and homelessness; e-health; and workforce development.

What you will be doing

Proposal Management (60% of time)

You will manage all aspects of producing winning proposals, including:

  • Scheduling and facilitating proposal meetings for a proposal team, including kick-offs, reviews, and debriefs.
  • Creating and reviewing a proposal template.
  • Reviewing proposal sections to ensure compliance and responsiveness to bid requirements.
  • Conducting regular proposal progress status meetings and maintaining the proposal schedule.
  • Facilitating writing/editing/rewriting efforts, including some writing and editing, as needed.
  • Producing proposals, including ensuring proper formatting and copy editing are completed.
  • Improving existing tools and processes for proposal development.

Capture and Market Research (40% of time)

  • Conducting research on bid opportunities, including information about potential competitors, incumbents, and funders.
  • Searching databases for promising opportunities and for background information.
  • Establishing search criteria, allowing you to build partnership with business units across the company.
  • Developing and maintaining connections with contacts who can provide intelligence about business opportunities.

Other reasonable and normal duties associated with the New Business unit including, but not limited to:

  • Working across all business units to enhance New Business activities.
  • Maintaining and enhancing the New Business SharePoint site.
  • Maintaining and enhancing the proposal boilerplate library.
  • Maintaining and updating project descriptions for use in proposals and other New Business efforts.

The following knowledge, skills, and abilities are needed to help you succeed in this role:

  • 3+ years of experience doing similar work.
  • The ability to organize and prioritize work while juggling multiple projects.
  • Excellent communication skillswritten and verbal.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and in collaboration with colleagues, building constructive and effective relationships.
  • Skill in assigning responsibility for tasks and decisions and the capability to set clear objectives and measures.
  • Proficiency in marshaling resources to get things done.
  • Ability to work under time pressure.
  • Capacity to develop and prepare winning proposals in response to federal, state, municipality, and foundation solicitations.
  • Strong research skills and the ability to find and analyze information accurately and quickly.
  • Excellent computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Office suite and SharePoint.
  • Willingness and ability to work extra and/or unusual hours during crunch periods.
