The Opportunity:

We are searching for a Payroll & Benefits Manager to join our growing team! This position will report to the Head of Human Resources and is based out of our headquarters in Columbus, OH.

Payroll Responsibilities:

  • Full life-cycle payroll processing: Accurate and timely compilation, preparation, and processing of bi-weekly payrolls in accordance with state and federal regulations and company policies and procedures for exempt and non-exempt employees.
  • Provide guidance, training, and support to all employees, including new hires, on timecard management, PTO requests, etcand provide additional training to managers on time card approvals and PTO approvals, where applicable.
  • Collect and file required payroll period data including final hours, special payments, retroactive adjustments, etc.
  • Perform payroll processing quality assurance reviews prior to processing, including reviewing all batch records.
  • Manage onboarding and offboarding processes.
  • Coach the broader HR team and mix employees on company payroll practices.
  • Communicate to Accounting team regarding payroll discrepancies and processing errors, such as rejected ACH transactions, administrative errors and reconciliations required.
  • Identify a need to stop payment/void payroll transactions, and provide notification and a file copy of the transactions.
  • Receive & Process Agency Garnishment Orders.
  • Responsible for ensuring all appropriate withholdings are applied to an employee's pay.
  • Partner with the accounting team on improving the company's payroll control environment by suggesting and implementing new audits and data control processes.
  • Year-end processing including fringe benefits, ACA reporting,
  • Managing W-2's and any corrected forms.

Benefits Responsibilities:

  • Assist employees with escalated benefits claims issues.
  • Audit vendor import and export files including benefits eligibility administration, and banking processes for the 401k plans.
  • Work closely with benefits administration outsourced vendors on escalated employee benefits eligibility issues and interpretation.
  • Work directly with benefits administration outsourced troubleshooting and resolving technology issues.
  • Coordinate qualified orders with the benefits vendors child medical support and domestic relations orders.
  • Manage the LOA Process and work with HR team on communication to team members and Accounting function.
  • Assist with management of open enrollment process including employee communications, on-line enrollment, and enrollment data accuracy into the Payroll/HR system.
  • Coordinate monthly benefits billing invoice processing including audit, approval, and resolution of issues.
  • Coordinate wage and benefits eligibility verification for private and state disability claims, wage verifications, and other authorized 3rd parties.
  • Resolve employee payroll deduction issues.
  • Coordinate with internal legal regarding subpoena requests for benefits information.
  • Maintain and update employee benefits website portal including company intranet, and provide input on information to be posted on third party vendor website.
  • Assist in facilitation of annual benefits compliance filings 5500 reporting, SAR mailings, SPD distribution.
  • Assist Head of HR with special benefits projects.
  • Responsible for ensuring administration of the company's 401k plan from on-boarding of employee and deferral updates.
  • Responsible for administration of the company's leave programs including FMLA, ADA, Short-term and Long-term Disability claims, EEO, ACA, 401k Audit, Workers' Compensation Audit, etc.
  • Coach the broader Mix team and employees on company benefit practices.

Other Duties:

  • Assist in HR projects from a payroll and benefits perspective.
  • Respond to unemployment claims.
  • Participate in special HR team projects.
  • Other duties where your professional contributions are valued.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in Business, Finance or Accounting
  • 5 + years of progressive experience in a multi-state payroll and benefits environment, preferably in a rapidly growing company.
  • Ability to communicate uncomplex and complex payroll and benefits related information to a wide audience.
  • Processed payroll on a HRIS system (ideally on a system with an integrated benefits platform)
  • Understanding of laws that impact payroll, benefits and HR.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and is flexible with changing priorities.
