Job Summary
The City of Salem is currently looking for a Parks Project Coordinator. Work schedule will be Monday-Friday and will include working holidays were applicable.

Parks Project Coordinator work involves responsibility for performing skilled and/or technical work in one or a variety of areas of maintenance, repair, and construction of parks or City facilities; turf maintenance, irrigation and park facility functions; and the coordination of supplemental labor forces, and volunteers from the community to perform park maintenance activities and repair projects. Crew leader responsibilities include pre-planning large or multiple-location work assignments; estimating time and materials for projects; ensuring proper tools, equipment, and supplies are available for assignments; ensuring work is performed with all safety precautions and to standards; directing the work at the project site; and resolving on-site problems. Work involves an extensive amount of decision-making and judgment about materials, methods, and quality of work assigned.

The successful Parks Project Coordinator will have a background with emphasis and advanced knowledge in specialized and athletic/sport field turf maintenance management; advance irrigation system installation, operation, and maintenance management; and integrated pest management.

What are the minimum qualifications?
  • Must pass the pre-employment background check and/or physical exam.
  • Must have an Oregon Driver's license and have a driving record that meets the City of Salem's driving standards.
  • High school diploma or G.E.D., supplemented by trade or professional training technical training or course work in park and landscape maintenance, landscape architecture, horticulture, arboriculture, irrigation, or closely related field in the area of specialty; and, three years' experience in maintenance, repair, and construction of public improvements, park and recreation areas, or other facilities, particularly within area of assignment or specialty, including lead responsibilities; or any combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential job functions.
  • Commercial Pesticide Applicator's license desired.
  • CPR/AED Certification preferred.
  • An Oregon Commercial Driver's License is desired.
