Job Summary
Hiring Range: $40,165.00 - $51,023.02/Year D.O.Q.

Port Corpus Christi Authority (PCCA) is currently seeking a dynamic professional to join our team! This position will operate and maintain all material handling systems and associated support equipment at the Bulk Terminal, while providing support to the Supervisor and Buk Terminal Manager.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Promotes safety awareness and environmental consciousness, and complies with all applicable safety and environmental procedures and regulations
  • Learns mechanical and electrical operating parameters, specifications and working characteristics of the gantry crane and radial ship loader and their related components
  • Learns to operate the gantry crane and related equipment and performs all required maintenance tasks on the gantry crane including replacing hold, close and counterweight wire rope; replacing clam bucket (10 & 15 yd.), etc.
  • Operates radial ship loader and performs required maintenance tasks on radial ship loader
  • Operates all material handling equipment associated with loading and unloading cargo
  • Operates locomotives and performs all duties associated with railroad operations
  • Performs all required maintenance necessary to maintain terminal operations
  • Determines operational malfunctions, detecting potential malfunctions, and initiates and performs preventative maintenance; determines malfunctions and repairs conveyor transmissions, fluid couplings and gear boxes
  • Performs Arc and MIG welding tasks, and is capable of selecting proper welding supplies to perform required tasks
  • Performs maintenance on conveyor systems including alignment and training to ensure proper tracking and tension adjustment
  • Maintains tension and alignment of belt cleaning equipment to ensure proper operation
  • Performs all required maintenance of support equipment including forklifts, backhoes, locomotives, vehicles, etc.
  • Performs design, layout, fabrication, and fitting of structural and operational components
  • Adjusts and calibrates vibratory feeders
  • Provides assistance to other employees to achieve maximum departmental efficiency
  • Provides training, direction, and support to lower grade level employees
  • Adheres to Port policy and works towards a safe work environment
  • Drives vehicle as necessary to complete assigned job duties
  • Performs related duties as assigned
  • CPR certified or the ability to become CPR certified within the first year of employment
  • Tier 2 status designation

CANDIDATE PROFILE
The preferred candidate for this position should be an organized, thorough, and disciplined individual with a focus on maintaining optimal integrity in support of the PCCA. They must possess the following:

EDUCATION & CREDENTIALS
  • High school diploma or equivalent; minimum two years education from an accredited college or university preferred
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) during course of employment
  • Valid driver's license

EXPERIENCE & JOB KNOWLEDGE
  • Five years related experience and/or training or acceptable equivalent experience

TECHNICAL SKILLS
  • Good mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity
  • Exceptional judgment to safely and efficiently operate and maintain equipment
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Ability to perform mathematical computations in all units of measure
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals
  • Ability to speak, read and write in English to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Proficiency in MS Office, including Word and Excel, Outlook, and other related applications
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and apply all PCCA policies
  • Promotes and adheres to the SEAPORT values, state/federal laws
  • Maintain good employee relations and encourages and fosters a helpful environment where teamwork prevails
  • Assists senior management and office staff where appropriate

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Ability to perform essential job functions, including but not limited to frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking or hearing, typing and occasional reaching, stooping, kneeling, lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Must be able to walk and stand on level and/or inclined, climb stairs, ramps, ladders and work stands; must be able to crouch, crawl, grasp/handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbow/knee and reach above/below shoulders
  • Ability to work in a general office environment, with some exposure to the elements when visiting worksites; ability to work at heights above thirty feet
  • Exposure to adverse weather conditions, risk of electrical shock and occasional fumes or airborne particles; moderate noise levels and moving mechanical parts are present
  • Ability to operate light-weight highway vehicles and standard office equipment and to work the requisite hours to fulfill position objectives, including evenings and/or weekends, as needed
