Position Summary:

Designs, installs, maintains, and manages network, including LANs, WANs, and other networks. Supports client/server applications, provides telephone support, high-speed or real-time audio and video support. Develops and/or utilizes bridges, hubs, routers, switches, gateways, and transport media. Network media include copper, fiber optic, or wireless. Installs, troubleshoots, repairs and maintains telecommunications equipment. Provides reports, completes requests for new service, determines appropriateness of moderate equipment changes or modifications, call switches, test trunks, test links and installs communication circuits. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. Builds networks and maintains external and internal server presence, administers the networks. Performs system backups on its internal network servers. Designs and supports server system(s) and supporting software.

Responsibilities: Essential Duties

  • Develops and implements network, desktop, PBX and WAN solutions to serve the short-term and long-term needs of the company.
  • Provides support to all internal customers for all network and desktop related issues.
  • Conducts cost/benefit analysis of technology products and service providers.
  • Manages internal and/or external resources to achieve project objectives.
  • Network Administration:
  • Resolves complex LAN and PC related problems.
  • Provides new user account setup.
  • Maintains all aspects of network security.
  • Adds/removes devices from the servers.
  • Installs server operating system or server related updates.
  • Maintains all network-related documentation.
  • Resolves complex LAN and PC related problems.
  • Provides technical, operations and training support of hardware and software to user community as needed.
  • New Technology:
  • Maintains awareness of new technologies and their benefit to Aesculap.
  • Recommends new technology solutions to address business needs.
  • Provides backup administration for AT&T and VoicePro voice mail system.
  • Participates in the planning and installation of new hardware and software applications.
  • Coordinates hardware and software purchases and installation
  • Must comply with applicable ISO and FDA regulations as stated in Quality Manual
  • Must embody the Companys Vision, Mission and Values

Expertise: Qualifications-Experience/Training/Education/Etc


  • Bachelor of Science degree in computer science, MIS or equivalent, and Microsoft Certified System Engineer (MCSE) certification.
  • Four or more years of experience with LAN technologies, including multiple network operating systems (NT, LAN Server), topologies (Token Ring, Ethernet) and protocols (TCP/IP, IPX/SPX, Netbios/Netbeui), and Wide Area Networking.
  • Minimum five to six years working experience with PC technology.
  • Functional understanding of network architectures and communications protocols.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage resources to achieve project objectives.
  • In-depth knowledge of operating systems, i.e. Windows XP, Windows Vista.
  • In-depth knowledge of end user applications, i.e. Microsoft Office, PCAnywhere or other communication software, Lotus Notes Administration.
  • Working knowledge of application software, i.e. Windows compatible database (Foxpro for Windows, Microsoft Access), Microsoft Access, Lotus NOTES, Microsoft PowerPoint.
  • Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required.
  • Proven ability to work with minimum supervision and handle multiple priorities.
  • Strong communication skills required (written and interpersonal).
  • Must be able to work flexible hours (Work weekends and evenings when required).
  • Must have demonstrated analytic, written, and oral communications skills.
  • Telecom experience such as Lucent or AT&T phone system.
  • Language and mathematical skills; reasoning ability:
  • Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect date, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds.
