Position Summary

The Interprofessional Community Clinic (ICC), a pro bono student-led free clinic that operates within the Rosalind Franklin University Health System (RFUHS), is seeking to fill a part-time Medical Assistant position. The Medical Assistant will be responsible for assisting clinicians and students with patient care, clerical, environmental and organizational tasks with the Interprofessional Community Clinic in North Chicago. The Medical Assistant will provide information to patients so they may fully utilize and benefit from the services and convey a positive image. The selected candidate will work with medicine, podiatry, physical therapy, and behavioral health services.

Who we are

The ICC is a pro-bono, student-run free clinic that serves the uninsured population within the Lake County community by providing multi-service healthcare, educational programs, and connections to supportive resources. The ICC provides accessible, quality healthcare through interprofessionalism and teamwork and emphasizes diversity, inclusion, and equity. The ICC works closely with Rosalind Franklin University faculty and RFUHS leadership to meet these aims.

The ICC currently operates via telemedicine with plans to reopen in-person services in the coming weeks. Availability will eventually be needed during Saturdays and some weekday evenings to accommodate this. Additional administrative duties will occur during the week; some of these duties could be done remotely.




Required Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Completion of medical assisting program
  • Maintain BLS certification
  • Must achieve a background check clearance



Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Fluent in Spanish
  • Availability during Saturdays and some evenings
  • Knowledge of the healthcare field and medical specialty.
  • Exemplary skills in verbal, written and interpersonal communication
  • Ability to work/interact with diverse populations, showing respect and sensitivity for cultural differences
  • Knowledge of information that must be conveyed to patients and families
  • Skill in performing tasks appropriately
  • Skill in tact and diplomacy in interpersonal interactions
  • Skill in understanding of patient education needs by effectively sharing information with patients and families
  • Ability to learn and retain information regarding patient care procedures
  • Ability to project a pleasant and professional image
  • Ability to plan, prioritize and complete delegated tasks
  • Ability to demonstrate compassion and caring in dealing with others
  • Knowledge of and ability to use appropriate techniques when helping patients ambulate and dress and the ability to handle stressful situations are required



Preferred Qualifications

  • 1+ years Medical Assistant experience
  • Knowledge of Electronic Medical Record System (Athena)
  • Experience working with health professional students
