SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONNAIRE AND OFFICIAL 10-YEAR (H6) DMV PRINTOUTARE REQUIRED AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION

BRIEF DESCRIPTION

Supervise and coordinate all maintenance activities and personnel in the installation, repair, testing, and calibration of a wide range of signals, traction power substations, electrical distribution, and track systems by interacting with internal/external contacts, coordinating/conducting training programs/safety meetings, assisting in development/revision of department policies and procedures, monitoring department budget, maintaining inventory of repair parts/equipment, assigning personnel to provide emergency service, maintaining current knowledge of laws and regulations regarding maintenance operations, and supervising investigations of accidents to determine cause/extent of damage to maintenance systems.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Oversees power, signal, and track maintenance of tracks, roadbeds, substations, signals, and overhead traction power.
  • Maintains track structures and systems, signal systems and train controls, crossing guards, and signal interfaces, maintaining high voltage traction power systems and substations, overhead catenary systems.
  • Plans and schedules underground service alerts and District-wide power outages.
  • Provides departmental oversight, addresses labor-relations issues, completes employee evaluations, coordinates work assignments, develops and implements training programs, maintains and schedules recertification programs.
  • Evaluates new equipment and repair techniques, and procures parts and materials as required.
  • Supports engineering and construction projects by maintaining internal and external contacts with city, county, state, federal, utility, and railroad representatives.
  • Inspecting and certifying completed work to verify conformance to technical specifications and regulations.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Two (2) year associate's degree, diploma or equivalent from a an accredited college, technical, business, vocational, or correspondence school in Railroad Signaling, Electrical and/or Mechanical fields or a related field.

Additional directly related experience beyond the minimum requirement may substitute for the required education based on the ratio of one and a half (1.5) years of experience for each (1) year of education.

Experience: Five (5) years journey level experience in the construction, maintenance or repair of track, signal or traction power. One (1) year of lead or supervisory experience is preferred.

Special Requirements, Licenses and/or Certifications: Must possess a valid Driver’s License at time of application and have the ability to obtain and maintain a valid California Class A driver’s license with Airbrake endorsement. Must have the ability to pass pre-employment DOT drug test, physical examination including Ishihara Eye Test (color acuity) and reference check. Must comply with drug and alcohol testing provisions for safety-sensitive employees as required by the FTA, Department of Transportation (49 CFR, Parts 40 and 655). Must have ability to possess a Forklift Operator Certification within 90 days of start of employment. Must have ability to obtain and maintain the following certifications: Federal Railroad Administration Certified Signal Inspector, High Voltage Qualified Electrical Worker, Federal Railroad Administration Certified Track Inspectors.

Only official 10-year (H6) DMV printouts issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles are acceptable. Online DMV printout will not be accepted.

Proof of required education beyond high school, such as college transcripts, diplomas, and/or certificates must be submitted at the time of application, if not substituting experience for the education requirement.
