Maintenance workers job is to perform routine and extensive range of work in the repair and general maintenance of facilities, buildings, and equipment under general supervision. They execute work within established procedures and process under both verbal and written instructions. This position takes direction from the Facilities Manager but the Maintenance Assistant is expected to work well independently and use solid judgement to adjust tasks and priorities based on facility needs, ticket system and through discussion with Facilities Manager. May work at multiple sites.


High School Diploma or GED required

Post High School training/education in any related field from an accredited college preferred

Must have one (1) year building maintenance experience, or any equivalent combination of training and experience.

Must have a valid Drivers License

Must be able to stand, lift, bend, twist, kneel and reach as part of the basic and on-going functions of this position

Must be able to lift a minimum of 50lbs as a part of the basic and on-going functions related to the position.

Knowledge of trades related to building maintenance and repair required.

Knowledge of a variety of building maintenance procedures and techniques preferred

Ability to use efficiently various power and hand tools.

Ability to follow oral or written instructions.

Ability to communicate efficiently and fluently in both written and oral form.

Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Performing repair or general Maintenance work of facilities, buildings, grounds, and equipment at various sites including electrical, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, glazier, and painting tasks which include but are not limited to:

Performing preventive building maintenance duties; caulks windows and doors, repairs and replaces broken windows.

Repairing and treating structures such as showers, floors, sinks, walls, carpets and roofs.

Repairs and replaces door knobs or locks, repairs door closures, patches holes in walls.

Change filters on ventilating, heating, and air conditioning units.

Servicing kitchen, appliances, and emergency equipment, reporting mechanical malfunctions to supervisor or party for action.

Moving and assisting in transportation of furniture and equipment.

Hang pictures and bulletin boards, makes name plates, moves and sets up tables and chairs.

Setting up and breaking down cubicle partitions, exercising discretion to identify projects that need higher skilled crafts individuals services.

Activating and deactivating building alarms and responding to alarm calls after and during regular work hours.

Troubleshoots minor maintenance problems involving electrical, structural, plumbing, and equipment repair or replacement.

Performs routine plumbing repairs such as unstopping toilets, sinks or urinals, fixing water leaks, leaking faucets, and water fountains.

Performs routine electrical repairs such as changing light bulbs or fluorescent lamps and assists in repairing ballast and light fixtures.

Purchases supplies, equipment, and materials necessary to complete projects.
