Position Summary

To assist in the daily operations of the Circulation Services within the Boxer Library which include ensuring patrons are to get what they need through checking materials in/out, redirecting information requests via phone and/or email, and assisting with the use of technological equipment within the library.

This is a part time, benefits eligible position. Hours are 4:00p.m.-9:00pm, Monday thru Friday.

We strive to be an integral partner in student and faculty academic and research journeys by providing access to resources critical to academic progression and success such as books, databases, journal articles, physical study spaces, anatomical models, and more. In addition, the library team supports the use of these resources through both synchronous and asynchronous instruction as well as one on one consultations to get the most out of the materials.

Building upon the interprofessional mission of RFUMS, the library staff work as a team with each member contributing to the team's success with their own expertise and knowledge while placing an emphasis on individual team member well-being. We strive to continually evolve to provide services, resources, and spaces which enhance the impact of RFUMS. We offer competitive and a strong benefits package. Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Check in/out renew library materials which include: books, journals, anatomical models, and other items in the circulating and reserves collection;
  • Assist patrons in locating materials in the circulating or reserves collection;
  • Input and update records in the library catalog which include records for patrons and library materials;
  • Assist patrons with using technological library equipment such as printers and rebooting and troubleshooting computers;
  • Shelve and help maintain the circulating and reserves collection;
  • Answer patron questions that come in in-person, phone, and email in a professional manner, and route those questions to appropriate members of the library team when appropriate;
  • Assist with the general maintenance of the library environment including cleaning dry erase boards, and returning furniture to its original location, etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisors and other members of the library team as needed.


Required Education & Experience
  • High School Diploma;
  • 2+ years of clerical or customer service experience
  • Basic computer and software skills
  • Must achieve satisfactory results from a background check
  • Must have proof of COVID 19 vaccination or a university approved exemption

  • Strong customer service skills;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills;
  • Excellent organization skills and attention to detail;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team based environment;
  • Ability to learn new skills and tasks;
  • Flexibility to deal with multiple or unexpected tasks and patrons simultaneously.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a library environment specifically in the area of circulation services;
  • LTA degree;
  • Current enrollment in a graduate-level library science program
