How This Role Contributes to Brighthouse Financial:

The Tax Strategy and Analysis Leader will be a key member of the Tax Leadership Team at Brighthouse. The ideal candidate will be a passionate leader comfortable with working across the tax functional areas and forming strong relationships with our internal stakeholders and external partners.

Work Location:

Charlotte, NC (remote option)

To protect the health and safety of our employees, our offices are closed until at least September 2021. When our offices reopen, we prefer that the individual hired for this role will be based in our Charlotte, NC office, however we are willing to consider remote candidates.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate across the enterprise to identify, communicate, and implement opportunities to minimize tax expense and manage tax risk
  • Collaborate across Finance and with other departments (e.g. Investments, Legal, etc.) to provide tax advice on cross-functional projects and initiatives
  • Actively participate in industry associations (e.g., ACLI) and working groups
  • Monitor tax legislative activity, document and communicate impact to key stakeholders; partner with Government Affairs to inform/advocate on relevant tax policy matters
  • Support and/or lead tax audits for all tax types, as necessary, including federal and state income tax, premium tax, sales and use tax, property tax, withholding tax
  • Support tax compliance and accounting for all tax types, as necessary (e.g., review of returns, document tax positions, quarterly close activities)
  • Support other areas of tax, as necessary (e.g., research technical issues, support admin system conversions)
  • Lead and/or support ad hoc tax projects
  • Responsible for coaching and mentoring tax staff
  • Additional duties as requested


Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:
  • 10 - 12 years tax experience in a nationally recognized public accounting firm or in a tax department of a large public corporation, or a combination thereof
  • Significant experience and ability to flex across tax functional areas including compliance, accounting, planning, and controversy and tax types
  • Prior insurance or Financial Services experience desired
  • CPA, JD, or MST preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
