About the Position:

 

The purpose of this position is to enhance SacRT’s customer service and outreach programs by communicating directly to customers on-board SacRT vehicles and facilities, and at events throughout SacRT’s service area. The Community Outreach Specialist is an important part of the marketing and communication efforts for the District. They are self-motivated individuals who are responsible for engaging with others in order to promote SacRT’s brand and services in both physical and virtual settings. Another important role of this position is to gather rider information through a variety of modes, including surveys, that will be used to improve SacRT’s service and the rider experience.

 

 

 

The Lead Community Outreach Specialist is a working lead that will perform the same job functions as the Community Outreach Specialists while in the field, with the following additional responsibilities leading the Community Outreach Specialist team: scheduling work assignments, ensuring timely attendance, assisting with set up/take down, providing necessary guidance and resources, acting as liaison between department staff and community event coordinators, responding and assisting to challenging circumstances, and communicating information to department management.

 

 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  • Rides different bus routes and trains to hand out promotional/marketing materials to inform riders about a service change, new campaign, and/or promotion.
  • Communicates with riders onboard transit, stations, and/or stops to informs riders about SacRT services and initiatives.
  • Holds pop-up events at light rail stations and transit centers.
  • Set up, staff and breakdown the SacRT tent, table and materials at different events across the region to promote SacRT.
  • Assists with different SacRT events, planned and unplanned activities impacting service to help riders navigate the system.
  • Provides SacRT outreach at bus stops and light rail stations, providing a visible presence to assist passengers with various wayfinding matters, including guidance related to SacRT’s system, directions, boarding and ridership processes, purchasing tickets through the specialized automated fare vending system, including both fare vending machines and SacRT’s specialized mobile fare app, and other advocacy/assistance related to SacRT transit services.
  • Participates in videos to promote SacRT.
  • Maintains a courteous and friendly demeanor during all interactions.
  • Keeps a tally of interactions with riders each day and at each event.
  • Assists with conducting surveys in coordination with the Marketing and Planning departments.
  • Helps organize swag and materials in the Marketing department, helps organize pocket timetables, and delivers marketing materials to different locations.

 

Lead (additional job functions):

The Lead Community Outreach Specialist is a working lead. In addition to performing all of the Essential Functions listed above for the Community Outreach Specialist, the Lead will also be responsible for:

 

  • Arrange and notify Community Outreach Specialists of weekly and daily schedules
  • Monitor event attendance and task completion of Community Outreach Specialists
  • Notify department management of all resource needs and supervision matters
  • Provide Community Outreach Specialists with resources for events
  • Assist with necessary on-the-job training
  • Act as liaison with community event leads, and manage in field work assignment changes

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

A combination of education and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position. SacRT reserves the right to determine the equivalences of education and experience.

 

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).

 

Experience: One (1) year of customer service experience.

 

Leads Additional Qualifications: Three (3) years of customer service experience. Lead/Supervision experience preferred.

 

Licenses and Certifications: Possession of a valid California driver’s license
