Position Summary

The Center for Cancer Cell Biology, Immunology and Infection at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine & Science invites applications for a full-time Laboratory Research Assistant. Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Perform various laboratory tasks including buffer preparation, autoclaving, restocking, and laboratory cleanup. Be able to perform mathematical calculations for buffer preparations, concentrations and dilutions.
  • Conduct supervised experiments, maintain lab books, and analyze/report data.
  • Perform a variety of techniques and assays including DNA/RNA prep, genotyping, PCR, ELISA, Western blot, cloning, culturing bacteria, tissue culture experiments, cell line maintenance and flow cytometry.
  • Help maintain the laboratory mouse colony. This will include extensive record keeping, breeder setup, ear tagging, tail snipping, euthanizing, and genotyping.
  • Aid in animal experiments including tumor inoculation and measurements, viral infections, tissue harvesting, and tissue processing.
  • Assist in the running of the lab taking inventory, ordering supplies, and training new staff.

Required Education & Experience
  • At least a BA/BS degree in a biological science with experience in a research laboratory.
  • Proficiency in common computer programs such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Must achieve satisfactory results from a background check
  • Must have proof of COVID 19 vaccination or a university approved exemption

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Excellent organizational skills and work ethic.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to multi-task, to manage time effectively, and to follow instructions and protocols.
  • The willingness to train in the handling of laboratory animals.
  • Ability to embrace diversity.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in the handling of mice is preferable.
  • Experience in molecular biology techniques, and in a lab environment.
