Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Controller, the Junior Staff Accountant will be responsible for a variety of accounting transactions in support of the CIIS finance department. The incumbent will examine, analyze and interpret accounting records to prepare financial statements, and conduct reconciliations of financial and budgetary data. This position will also support the financial processes of other units and assist in general ledger and payroll duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs general accrual accounting and other related duties.
  • Coordinate payment of corporate credit card accounts
  • Manage recurring payments and department cost allocations
  • Prepare general ledger entries by analyzing and reconciling a variety of accounts, research transactions
  • Reconcile payroll to general ledger
  • Compute wages and deductions and enter data into payroll system.
  • Assist the Controller with various reports and analysis
  • Assist with the annual audit by preparing schedules and PBC's
  • Perform monthly balance sheet account reconciliations
  • Regularly review and update accounting policies and procedures
  • Duties include interaction with vendors, staff, faculty, and students
  • Maintains knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and procedures.
  • Files tax forms with federal, state, and local government agencies.
  • Will perform other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting.
  • Understanding of and the ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Ability to correctly prepare financial statements and reports.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software, and accounting software.
  • Highly proficient in Excel.


Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Required Skills/Abilities:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, or finance.
  • At least three years of accounting related experience required, preferably with some Payroll experience.
  • Ability to learn enterprise database systems quickly.
  • Experience with Ellucian Colleague highly desirable.
  • Ability to work independently and in collaboration with other departments.
  • Must be detail oriented and highly organized with time and data.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

Additional Information:

SALARY AND BENEFITS

$53,840 to $78,197 (DOE). Full Benefits.

NOTES TO CANDIDATE

Working Conditions -- Duties are primarily performed in an office environment at a desk or computer terminal, typically, Monday through Friday. Hybrid remote/in office schedule negotiable, but must be local.

You may also be asked to provide proof of educational degree(s), licenses or credentials pertinent to the position.
