To manage the successful onboarding of new societies and journals to OUP. This role is the anchor for virtual delivery teams and understands both the customer needs and what a good onboarding delivery looks like. The Journals Transitions Manager (JTM) brings the right Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) across the Journals business together with the customer to ensure the successful onboarding of both newly joining and launching journals. This includes delivery initiation, planning and facilitating customer milestone workshops, and dealing with exceptions and conflicts. The JTM applies these same principles to related projects and processes, including conversions of OUP journals to full open access, journal name changes and journals leaving the business. To be successful, the role requires excellent communications skills, relentless customer focus, a natural curiosity and strong organizational skills.

1. Delivery: The role holder will be accountable for the end-to-end onboarding of the customer. This will include initiation, assembling the virtual team and ensuring appropriate, dynamic reporting is in place. It also includes oversight of the transition process via project management software (currently JIRA) and monitoring for any variation from agreed budgetary or timeframe guidelines.

2. Facilitation. Key parts of the onboarding flow are customer milestone workshops. The JTM schedules and facilitates these workshops. The JTM will work with the customer and Publisher to ensure the relevant Subject Matter Experts are present to deliver the required workshop outcomes.

3. Communication. The JTM is the anchor-point for the delivery and will need to communicate confidently and with gravitas with virtual team members, senior leaders and the customer.

4. Team Enablement. The JTM will be driving a delivery across a virtual team. Whilst they are not expected to know the detail of each micro step, they will have the big picture view and will be responsible for facilitating problem solving and ensuring appropriate assignment of ownership, particularly in resolving uncommon situations or scenarios.

5. Continuous Improvement. A key part of the JTM role is to take a LEAN view of the delivery processes. This means identifying and proposing practical ways to remove wait time, re-work or hand-offs within the delivery cycle. The JTM will be expected to use a number of techniques to do this.

6. Compliance. OUP operates within the NISO Transfer Code of Practice and the JTM will need to ensure we meet our obligations where commercially appropriate.


Broad understanding of Journals publishing functions and processes
Ability to work well in cross-functional teams and facilitate resolution of issues to meet client and business needs

Strong customer service as well as written and verbal communication skills
Excellent presentation skills.
Ability to remain flexible in a changing environment and resolve conflict
Ability to make decisions that are timely and well thought out and that achieve results consistent with the customers needs, OUPs business goals and organizational culture.
Ability to multi-task and prioritize workload.
Ability to work independently and in a self-directed manner
