International Operations Manager

This is a hybrid position which can be based in the Schaumburg, IL or downtown Chicago office.

The International Operations Manager is responsible for providing overall operations support and direction for the SOAs International Department and international offices. This role includes working closely with the Senior Director, International, to set budgets, monitor finances, oversee contracts, and manage other logistical aspects to ensure smooth operation of the SOAs international team.

In addition, this role will work with the Senior Director, International in managing the International Committee activities in developing and implementing the SOAs international strategy and plans.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide operational management and support for SOA International Department
  • Work with international staff to develop annual budget for international operations, including working to confirm annual plan and budget for international PD offerings
  • Monitor finances and expenditures versus plan
  • Work with staff to develop and monitor key metrics for measurement of international success, including for candidate/member growth, PD delivery, etc.
  • Oversee contract processing, including negotiations, as needed for international team
  • Assist international offices with logistical support for operations, ensuring delivery of support services by independent service providers to maintain smooth operations (e.g. re: accounting, payroll, rental leases, etc.)
  • Develop and implement plans for setting up new international office operations and/or hiring of remote staff, as needed, to support SOA international strategy and expansion plans
  • Provide management and support for the activities of the International Committee, including development and implementation of international strategic initiatives
  • Assist in preparation of reports and presentation materials for various groups relative to responsibilities as described above (International Committee, SOA Leadership Team, SOA Board of Directors, etc.).
  • Provide project leadership and oversight on ad-hoc projects that support international strategy
  • Manage staff (e.g. direct reports) as department grows
  • Perform other duties as needed

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED (an equivalent amount of training, education and experience will be considered)

  • Requires a Bachelors degree; past course work in international studies and/or work experience in a multinational/global business context is desirable
  • Requires a minimum of five to seven years of experience, with strong project management skills, preferably in a professional nonprofit association or organization
  • Professional work style with an orientation to high quality service, organization, and ability to multitask
  • Ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders (volunteers and members).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Exceptional written and verbal skills required
  • Strong analytical aptitude and comfort working with financial aspects
  • Familiarity with international business practice
  • Knowledge of international relations and the roles and responsibilities of government, regulatory and business entities
  • Strong project management skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively and coordinate the work of staff and volunteers
  • Must be extremely organized and able to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to produce quality work with attention to detail
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the non-profit and professional association environment is a plus
  • Strong commitment to confidentiality in work processes

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Occasional overnight international and/or domestic travel may be required, but is not anticipated to be a significant part of this role
  • Requires work outside of normal business hours to accommodate working with international staff across different time zones
