Job Description:

Amherst College invites applications for the Interim Visitor Center Receptionist position. The Interim Visitor Center Receptionist is a part-time position, through the end of August 2022. Given Amherst's distinction as one of the most diverse liberal arts colleges in the country, the successful candidate will demonstrate the w ays in which they bring value to and will work towards supporting a broadly diverse community.

As a member of the Visitor Relations Team, the Interim Visitor Center Receptionist helps ensure each on campus and virtual visitor has an excellent impression of the Amherst College community. The Interim Visitor Center Receptionist is responsible for helping to coordinate the work of a diverse set of student assistants/interns and the staff greeting our visitors. The Receptionist serves as the primary staff for visitor greeting when interns/staff are not available and/or when volume is high. The Receptionist also has responsibility for ensuring that emails and phone calls are handled in a manner consistent with the standards of a close-knit small liberal arts college.
  • Ensures that all visitors are greeted, serving as the primary staff for friendly, efficient welcoming Visitor Center (The Wilson Admission Center) experience for prospective students and their families
  • Serves as the primary staff for answering of incoming telephone calls, and coordinating Student Assistant support for this function
  • Working with the VR Team's Admission Counselor, monitors Student Assistants/Tour Guides in their visitor reception responsibilities
  • Ensures scheduled tours and group information sessions run smoothly and on schedule
  • Coordinates with other Operations Team members offering back-up visitor reception and telephone answering support
  • Maintains reports related to admission visitor counts and call volume
  • Creates tour and information session calendar for publication in Slate
  • Schedules and coordinates admission staff dean-on-duty and information session responsibilities
  • Schedules and coordinates room reservations for daily group information sessions
  • Manages the Visitor Center spaces by monitoring Admission publication supplies, maintaining Reception Areas and visitor spaces by coordinating Visitor Center maintenance requests with the Service Center and Facilities Staff.
  • As a member of the Visitor Relations Team, attend meetings to discuss issues and improvements to visitor engagement logistics


Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Commitment to diversity and inclusion
  • Customer Service skills
  • Experience with Google Docs, email, and other office technology
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
