Our internship program provides an authentic, hands-on experience of working at J.A. Watts. You will have the opportunity to gain experience on projects, learn from peers, receive ongoing professional development and contribute to the Aviation, Engineering, and Construction industry. Our program provides a challenging, real-world experience by assisting on all aspects of the assigned project(s), including but not limited to recruitment, payroll, employee recognition, and working with employees and internal departments. Each intern is paired with a mentor, who will provide training, answer questions, and be a resource throughout the entire internship.


  • Support department objectives, procedures, and performance standards within boundaries of company policy
  • Contribute to and collaborate with team members on project tasks and deliverables
  • Complete payroll data entry and auditing
  • Support full-cycle recruitment process, including job posting, resume and candidate screening, interview scheduling with candidates, and overall marketing strategy
  • Assist with Internship Program, including event planning, assignment progress check-in, and process improvements
  • Update internal documents (job descriptions, employee files, verification of employment requests, new hire onboarding process, etc.)
  • Coordinate with internal departments and outside vendors for new hires and terminations
  • Properly handle employee requests through responsiveness, follow-up, and escalation to appropriate parties
  • Perform other duties as required/directed

Program Details

  • Duration: to be determined based on candidates schedule
  • Location: Chicago, Illinois
  • Compensation: Paid
  • Work schedule: average of 40 hours per week (flexible if working during the school year)
  • We do not provide housing assistance
  • This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship
. Requirements:

Qualifications and Skills

  • Working towards a bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business or Organizational Development, or related field
  • Experience with Microsoft Office programs
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Detail-oriented with strong writing and communication skills
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities, work effectively in a team environment and meet deadlines
  • Self-starter
