The Human Resources Generalist I is responsible for providing services and support in multiple functions of Human Resources at Horizon House. This position plays a key role in the success of the organization by offering support in areas including interpretation, administration, and implementation of policies, programs, and procedures, benefits administration.

What You'll Do


Benefits Administration

  • Under the direction of the Human Resources Manager, administers and maintains employee benefits and files, group benefits databases, and employee profiles. Specifically supports the enrollment process, COBRA, beneficiaries, disability, A&D, rollovers, distributions, loans, and compliance testing.
  • Assists with the implementation of new or changes to existing benefit plans by coordinating with the HR Coordinator on employee benefit fairs and answering employee questions; Communicating plan information to employees; Assists with the planning and execution of open enrollment.
  • Act as the benefits liaison for employees who have questions or need administrative support to process their benefits requests.

Leave of Absence and ADA Administration

  • Under the direction of the Human Resources Manager, responsible for leave administration and ADA processes in accordance with company policies and local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
  • Serves as the first point of contact for questions, intake of leave requests, preparation and distribution of required notices, forms and letters, evaluation of health certification information, determination of leave eligibility, coordination of interactive process discussions, and initiation and management of employee LOA's, while ensuring adherence to and compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal leave requirements.?
  • Ensures the appropriate and timely follow-up information is provided to employees in response to requests for information in accordance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations.?
  • Communicates leave information to employees, including but not limited to communicating Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, LTD and leave eligibility, informing employees of their rights, enrollment requirements, and ability to make changes under Horizon House's policy and applicable state and federal leave laws.
  • Monitors and tracks critical dates (start date, return to work date, intermittent dates, etc.) in the leave cycle and communicates with the employee, and manager as appropriate.?

  • Serves as a backup to other positions in the Human Resources department.

What We're Looking For:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution or equivalent HR experience (degree in Human Resources or related degree preferred)
  • Experience: 4 years' progressive Human Resources experience, with 2 years' direct experience in benefits administration or leave management.
  • Experience with a union employee group not required,
  • Certification: Active PHR, SPHR, or SHRM-CP Certification, or in current pursuit of certification.
  • Knowledge: Knowledge of local, state, and federal employment laws and practices; Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Charisma: Fosters a friendly and inviting environment that establishes trust and rapport with staff.
  • Collaboration: Achieves goals through teamwork and alliances in the broader community.
