Position Summary

The Human Resources Assistant is a critical position in the HR Department. Responsible for making a positive impression, the Assistant will be the first point of contact for Human Resources. The Assistant will gain exposure to all areas within HR, providing support to the team in the day-to-day functions of the department. The Assistant will also participate in special projects as assigned.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provides front office support through phone coverage and in-person assistance to all who contact the HR Department.
  • Assists HR Manager with recruiting related functions: requisition creation and posting, onboarding, scheduling, background checks, orientation, and data entry into the HRIS system.
  • Assists with processing and onboarding of student workers
  • Tracks terminations and schedules exit interviews.
  • Maintains employee personnel files and other department files and records.
  • Provides administrative support to other department members as needed.
  • Assists in coordination of new employee newsletter, HR presentations, and events.
  • Handles special requests from the AVP of HR, and Director, including completion of various surveys, and other administrative projects or responsibilities.
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum 5 years administrative support experience or an equivalent combination of work experience / education
  • Must achieve satisfactory results from a background check
  • Must have proof of Covid19 vaccination or a university approved exemption

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent telephone communication skills
  • Highly detail oriented, well organized, & self-motivated
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; ability to learn HRIS systems
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Exhibits professionalism
  • Ability to set priorities, manage multiple tasks, and follow-up to ensure completion of projects
  • Demonstrated initiative and willingness to take on new work
  • Ability to manage confidential and sensitive information appropriately

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree
  • Some experience in an HR department (internship/part-time job)
