Job Summary

The Housing Quality Standards Inspector role is a superb opportunity for someone who would like to contribute to the safety and livability of subsidized housing units in our area. As the Housing Quality Standards Inspector you will complete initial, annual, and complaint inspections for rental units in the Salem and Keizer area. This position will also determine rent comparability based on unit and market conditions. The Housing Quality Standard Inspector coordinates with and provides timely information to our customers; is proficient in the use of computer programs; and has great communication skills orally and in writing.

What are the minimum qualifications?
  • Must pass the pre-employment background check and drug test (including marijuana).
  • Must have an Oregon Driver license and meet Salem Housing Authority driving standards.
  • Must have a combination of the following -
    • Associates degree in fields such as building trades, housing code enforcement, or real estate and two (2) years of applied experience in the building trades such as construction, housing inspection or code enforcement or any combination of experience and training that demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities as listed, and ability to perform the work.
  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain the Housing Quality Standards Certification within 9 months of employment.
  • Visual Lead Based Paint Certification is desirable.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Sufficient computer knowledge and skills to work with computer programs.
  • Bilingual proficiency preferred.
