The Role

This role will serve as a key member of the discovery+ team, driving programming strategy and scheduling for discovery+ globally, reporting to the Group SVP of Content & Commercial Strategy. The right person for this role has deep familiarity with Discoverys content, international expertise, and experience collaborating with product teams; is collaborative, analytical, nimble and innovative, adaptable and forward-looking, and highly organized. This role will prioritize and optimize for discovery+ content and subscribers amidst many competing objectives.


  • Oversee scheduling (launch timing and roll-out strategy) for all content that will be available on a global or multi-territory basis on discovery+ (e.g., discovery+ originals, acquisitions, in-region concurrents).
  • Lead scheduling strategy, drive alignment around the highest priority content (from all regions) to travel across discovery+ markets, ensure visibility of scheduling strategy for non-discovery+ territories, (all in partnership with schedulers from the respective network teams in each discovery+ territory)
  • Form a global community of discovery+ schedulers for the transparent communication of information, establishment of strategy and best practices
  • Enforce global day & date publishing approach (where applicable), including launch date selection that accommodates versioning requirements
  • Work with network schedulers and network leadership to amplify content releases on discovery+ using programming strategies on the networks (e.g., sneaks, marathons, main shows and spin-offs), and optimize utilization of content across both discovery+ and linear (e.g., windowing and holdbacks from linear to discovery+ and vice versa)
  • Act as Center of Excellence for scheduling, using data and analytics to develop frameworks and best practices to guide scheduling and release strategies on discovery+ for all scheduling teams to leverage in scheduling decisions on local content
  • Implement modifications to launch strategies based on viewer behavior, content availability, or other needs
  • Partner with the discovery+ marketing team as well as the discovery+ and network content teams to prioritize content with maximum potential to deliver new subscribers and retain current ones
  • Lead the editorial / merchandising team, overseeing merchandising strategies and choices


Develop frameworks and best practices to guide merchandising on discovery+ for local teams to leverage in merchandising decisions on local and global / multi-territory content
In partnership with the data science, product/ engineering, content strategy and analytics, and discovery+ merchandising and engagement teams, drive vision for the human and algorithmic intersection in content discoverability / promotion (e.g., content cold-start)

In the US
  • Optimize for user engagement and retention as well as content discoverability and content viewership / performance
  • Eventize major content launches, and stunts for holiday / seasonal programming
  • QC on timely and accurate publishing
  • Design processes and tools to enable the accessibility of complete and accurate scheduling information (e.g., to marketing and PR / Comms, Ad sales, content operations, merchandising, and others) on a global basis.
  • Lead the discovery+ programming operations team
  • Work closely with content supply chain, content operations and media logistics to revamp and enhance existing internal tools to create transparency about content utilization globally
  • Be a key point of contact for internal stakeholders, partnering:
  • With on-air promotion, marketing, PR, talent, and social on content marketing campaigns
  • With finance in budget tracking and slot management for discovery+ content
  • With ad sales, ad sales marketing to identify opportunities for integrations and unique content packaging for discovery+ original content
  • With content operations and digital supply chain for enforcing content taxonomy (e.g., episode numbering, sub-genres, etc) and on-time publishing
  • With PMD and Media Logistics (for discovery+ Originals) and content operations (for licensed content) on expected delivery timelines to inform scheduling and vice versa
  • With BLA / Legal on rights clearances / content availability by region
  • Inform the respective content teams development efforts:
  • In partnership with strategy and analytics, identify trends of content overperformance or underperformance
  • Work with strategy and analytics, data science, and research teams to design experiments, studies, and focus groups to better understand our content and viewers
  • Collaborate with the local programmers around the world to identify global trends, potential formats, and sub-genres with highest travel potential or most global appeal
  • Identify opportunities for stunts and holiday / seasonal programming


  • Bachelors degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of skills, training and hands-on experience.
  • 10+ years experience in network scheduling/programming, including 2+ years international experience with content including deep exposure to non-US content.
  • Well-honed creative perspective.
  • Extensive experience with quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis; ability to interpret and leverage on-platform audience data for programming and development decisions, including a demonstrated ability to present complex analysis to leadership
  • Proven leadership and project management skills; demonstrated ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and to handle multiple simultaneous projects in a well-organized manner and a fast pace
  • Understanding of the business aspect of SVOD platforms.
  • Self-motivated with demonstrated ability to take initiative to problem solve/course correct, be strategic, make firm decisions, pivot with changing priorities and needs.
  • Knowledge of DCI systems and procedures, as well as global relationships with DNI a plus.
  • Determined, positive attitude that will rub off on your colleagues and business prospects
  • Appetite for disruption, relentless pursuit of better ways, and high tolerance for ambiguity.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational, attention to detail, management, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in Excel and Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides).
  • Must have the legal right to work in the United States
