SUMMARY AND OBJECTIVE

The Graduate Admissions Counselor is responsible for assisting the Director in recruiting and counseling prospective students, and developing relationships with college and university faculty, community-based-organizations, and businesses. Admissions counseling, application review, and completed transfer documentation via evaluation of transfer portfolios and transcripts are significant functions of this position. This position assists with the organization, training and operations of the Admissions Department. Coordination and execution of graduate program recruitment is a key role. This position works in conjunction with graduate department chairs and committees. The Graduate Admissions Counselor must be sensitive to college needs, employee and student goodwill, and overall brand equity of MCAD as an employer and educational institution.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Prospect, recruit, and counsel prospective graduate students.
  • Schedule, promote, and conduct recruiting and informational programs online and in-person at colleges, college fairs, National Portfolio Days and various other recruiting events.
  • Establish rapport with college administrators, faculty, counselors, prospective students and their parents, by providing information about the College, college curriculum and its enrollment services procedures.
  • Conduct one-on-one admissions counseling, including in-person and virtual appointments, interviews, portfolio reviews, and campus tours.
  • Participate and assist with on-campus and virtual recruiting events.
  • Process follow-up correspondence to prospective students, faculty, and counselors after visits, portfolio days, on-campus interviews, college fairs, etc.
  • Manage application files and assist with updating databases with current information.
  • Collaborate with department chairs and graduate evaluation committees. Lead the procedure for review of graduate applicant files and complete final review and scoring of application materials for the purposes of making admission decisions.
  • Track and report on results by adhering to an established system which includes the use of database tools to efficiently track each interaction. Audit collected data and conduct statistical research to target population for recruitment and judge recruitment effectiveness. Produce regular reports regarding activities and future plans.
  • Act as a backup for the Undergraduate counselors as necessary. Maintain knowledge of all undergraduate programs and procedures as well as transfer policies and procedures.
  • Assist with the training and daily operations of the Admissions Office.
  • Provide constant evaluation of current admissions procedures and policies. Make applicable recommendations and take actions for the improvement of the Admissions Department to provide better service for prospective students.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Director of Admissions.
  • Represents MCAD's vision, purpose, and values in day to day work and interactions with MCAD students, staff, faculty, and campus guests, as well as the greater community.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position does not have supervisory responsibility.



EDUCATION

BA/BFA or equivalent, required; MFA in visual arts, preferred. Must have completed studio art coursework.

EXPERIENCE

  • The ideal candidate would be a MCAD graduate and preferably have already represented the College in some capacity (for example, as a Student Ambassador, Tour Guide, RA, Orientation Leader, Student Union member). As a role model for prospective students, the candidate should have a strong and positive MCAD experience as both a student and campus community member.
  • Previous admissions, public relations, or customer service or equivalent experience, required.
  • CRM database experience preferred.
  • Overall proficient skill-level in Microsoft Office, which includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email, and basic computer concepts.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently; attention to detail; handle multiple tasks and prioritize duties.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal, organizational and communications skills.
  • Demonstrated initiative; ability to learn quickly. Willingness and ability to learn new software.
  • Experience with a Higher Education environment preferred.
  • Strong problem solving skills and technical aptitude.
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate communication and collaborate across departments.

EVALUATION

  • Certification/Licensure not required for this position.

TRAVEL

Extensive overnight travel is required and demonstrated ability to travel both locally and nationally that may frequently require being away from home for extended periods. Must be available to work weekends. Works and drives for extended periods of time, including the ability to load, unload, transport and assemble display materials. In order to perform these requirements, candidates must possess a valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and complete a satisfactory motor vehicle check (MVR).

BACKGROUND CHECK

This position has been identified as security sensitive and will require a background check. At the discretion of the college, various background checks may be done during the course of employment.

ENVIRONMENT

This position operates in a professional office environment. This position requires the ability and willingness to closely partner with team members and colleagues in other departments. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Upon request, reasonable accommodation will be provided to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

This position also operates in various remote locations, including but not limited to, other college and school campuses, high schools, career and portfolio days, and other venues. Under these conditions, the employee may be exposed to outdoor weather and other conditions.
